My partner's father is an overzealous church deacon. His father lost a considerable amount of money at stocks, built an enormous, fund-draining home, and claims he now needs the land sale money to keep the house but he consistantly throws away $400+ a week to a small country church in the form of a "donation". The son is furious at his father for secretively selling off portions of the family land to pay for trying to live too big and appear to be the "big man" in the county at church. The land has been in their family for several generations, and has always been kept intact, until recently. It is also suspected the father is trying to sell off land to make a very large donation for a proposed annex for the church. The son cares deeply for the land, and sees the land as a part of the family legacy, not as a commodity to dice and sell. Can the son do anything legally to prevent the further squandering of the inheritence?

It has been a trend in history, granting individuals rights and it is a very good thing. If i would have lived back in the day, i would have been all for black rights, and women rights. Even though i don´t agree with people being gay, i do think they should have the right to get married if they want.I agree with animal rights to a certain degree and i´ll let it go at that.

But with all the new technology and AI, and when the day comes that robots and computers can really think for themselves, will these machines ever be granted "rights" such as humans and "animals" have been granted?

would you be in support or against robot rights?

I recently asked the question "would it be illegal to create a virus or worms that seeks out and destroys other viruses or worms".

(Can view it here

Now this got me thinking on an ethical side. Would it be ethical to create such a thing?

The more points of views the better please.

Ive moved into my new house, ive bought it and theres tons of post coming, what if i open them? even like accidently or sumit?
I KNOW that some of these are important paperwork, theres one here ive managed to read thru by putting on a spotlight and its summoning the previous home owner to court, I dont want the police knocking on my door when she doesnt turn up.

Debt collectors, Court, Solicitors Whats the best way? Ive tried the police who say it is contract. It seems complicated. He wrote a very detailed contract that I call an IOU. which he has signed. Because I have strong feeling for him still Im finding it almost difficult to approach. He told me he hasn't got a job. But last year told me he would be buying his house from the council by christmas. As of now he still tells me his not working. Around christmas he started texting me for what was basically about sex. And in one of these texts he coldly told me he isnt looking to become a permenant fixture he just wanted to know how I was that he has a girlfriend and she is from Jamaica he white. im black. All of this I reakon is him testing me to see how far I will let him push me . The guy I said reakons he can get my money back. But I believe that they'd be a lot of blood shed, as they are both bad boys. Im nothing like any of them as i'm quiet and tend to be passive

My wife and I Met late December of '04. We hit it right off and started dating on a regular basis until June2' 06 where we decided at that time to get married.

We had a very happy blended family (her daughter and my 3 boys) and went on many little family excursions.

Until one fateful day of January31, 2007 my wife was killed in an auto accident. We were 3 days short of being married for 8 months.

The biological deadbeat father had shown up to the funeral to take my (his) daughter. His comments were" she will get over the death of her mom". How does a 9 year get over the shattering of her world?

The biological father refuses to allow anyone to visit with my (his) daughter. He moved at least 5 hours away.

In the state of Missouri, step fathers have no rights!

Now I and my family have lost a wife, mother, sister, and a daughter. Where is the fairness in this?

I was told my hospital bill was a specific amount. I even got a print out of it, and the first bill that came was itemized and showed the quoted amount. After I paid it I started to receive bills saying I owed several hundred more dollars.
Is this legal?
I tried contacting the hospital, but I'm not getting a response, and they're saying they're going to send the bill to a collection agency.

Surely the best thing about capitalism is the ability we consumers have to 'vote with our feet.' Given that China has an appalling human rights record, performs abortions without consent at 8 months, kills prisoners on demand to supply organs to Western countries and operates sweat shops to mass produce cheap goods why do we, the consumers, continue to purchase products that are made there? The best way to speak out against the Chinese government would be to stop financing them!

The movie industry makes these adds telling us to say no to piracy because it causes the companies to loose money.
Very understandable, but what if I've actually gone to the movies and paid for my ticket to watch it there? Can I later download it onto my computer without any worries if I feel like watching it again?
I mean, I already gave them my money, I don't see how they could complain about me downloading it in order to watch it again.
