Law & Ethics - March 2007

I am a 23 year about to graduate from college in May with a B.S in psychology and I am about to start med school in the fall. Last year my girlfriend of 3 years and I broke up. In trying to get some of my stuff back she pressed charging against me for trespassing. Even though there were circumstances, I shouldn’t have been there and so I plead guilty. Now I have this on my record and can never get it off. Is my life pretty much over? Is there any point in me even going to grad school? It was my dream to become a doctor and maybe one day work in the criminal field as a criminal psychologist. Am I now going to be bound to a life of burger flipping?

I support abortion, and not just for rape, incest, or mother's life. Ladies relax, I am not judging. I want you to give me a reason why Tax dollars should pay for it. I have Christian friends that say, "I don't want my tax dollars paying for it. My tax dollars are mine and if they use my tax dollars then they make me part and parcel of the abortion." Just as I support your right, to make this decision about your body, I also have to try to relate to them and their side. Don't fool yourselves into believing that the abortion fight is over.
Before you make the stupid statement, that you think that I am anti abortion I will tell you that I am old enough to be father to some of you and grandpa to the rest. I well remember the days of no illegalized abortion. I have been in the medical field most of my adult life, I have a wife, daughter, daughter in-law, and granddaughters and have no wish for them not to have a reasonable choice.

If you pay a deposit & rent in advance at the beginning of the tenancy, then pay rent subsequently at the beginning of every month, do i have to pay again before i leave?..what is the law? please help! :)

My car was vandalized, 3 tires slashed and paint poured over the window. I know who did it but I did not see him. I called the police but they told me unless I see who did it they can do nothing about it. What else can I do to bring this person up front to admit that he did it. I want to sue him because I had to pay a deductible of $500. get a rental car put gas in it and used it for 13 days. Advise needed . Thanks

I say the foreclosure is invalid: (working bkwrds)My foreclosure is a lien because I couldn't pay a loan that was issued on facts presnted by an appraiser that was hired by a company that bought the house so I could rent to own from them. (1) (1) Any person whose real or personal property is affected by a recorded or filed lien or document that the person believes is a spurious lien or spurious document may petition the district court.... HOW? WHAT FORM? STATE OR LOCAL ?

We've appealed. I don't know what else to do. Any suggestions welcome. She was retired in 96, got SSI in 99, when she attempted to get the back they've decided she has to repay the $150,000. They say she isn't dissabled. It's unfair. I know she can't work. I'm trying to get this petition signed: http://www.petitiononline.com/525600sl/petition.html
My mother IS a dissabled Vet. It's horrid that the Gov't she's served for so long is doing this to her. She has Chronic Fat. Synd, numerous nuroligical problems, a bad back, and can barely do her dishes in a day. There are doctors, neurologists, and specialists backing her up. my boyfriend lets me use his computer and when i went to type certain letters into google i would find searches he made such as "young nude models", "pre teen girls", "pre teen porn" "young girls", and so on. i was a little weirded out, but i noticed that he does look up 'regular' porn, too, like "teen girls" (well i think this is regular porn. i don't look at it so i don't know much). i shamefully started being sneaky and checking his internet history (i know it is wrong..) and opened a lot of the links to images/sites/galleries of these "young models" and they are children ranging from 7-16ish looking (young looking, flat chested, etc.. clearly pre-pubescent) and sometimes girls that look older, but they are clearly underaged. over time, i noticed he views/downloads these images quite a bit, every day. i accuse him sometimes of being a perv and he says "i only look at porn 2-3 times a week, tops, i am not a perv". i just want to know what is going on. should i be concerned?

It is said that to take a board of director out of his position, it requires the president to command the secretary to hold a meeting to decide on this issue. How can that be possible if the board member you would like to impeach is the president? And how can it be possible to have a meeting of the stockholders if the company is composed of [let's say] three million stockholders?

Do you think it is ethical for a lawyer to sue someone and win a judgement against them, only to immediately turn around and sign this same person on as their client to sue another lawyer?

For example, person A hires lawyer A to sue person B and person B has hired lawyer B. Lawyer A is successful at trial and wins judgement against person B in the amount of $1 million dollars.

Person B has no money but Lawyer B over $5 million dollars and Lawyer A knows this. Lawyer A calls Person B and says "sign with me and I'll get your $1 million you owe Person A, plus I'll get you an additional $1 million out of lawyer B because he was ineffective as your counsel."

Here's the scoop. My boyfriend is the co-signer on a lease with a former friend. They are on good terms right now, and it seems as though the former friend has defaulted on the lease payments. It's been about a year and a half since the lease was signed, and it's for a four year term. As the cosigner, to what extent is my bf liable? Will the dealership sue the primary signee first, or how does that work? Besides kicking himself for a) cosigning and b) not redoing the paperwork as soon as the friendship went sour, is there anything he can do to prevent getting penalized? Input would be appreciated!
