I am a 23 year about to graduate from college in May with a B.S in psychology and I am about to start med school in the fall. Last year my girlfriend of 3 years and I broke up. In trying to get some of my stuff back she pressed charging against me for trespassing. Even though there were circumstances, I shouldn’t have been there and so I plead guilty. Now I have this on my record and can never get it off. Is my life pretty much over? Is there any point in me even going to grad school? It was my dream to become a doctor and maybe one day work in the criminal field as a criminal psychologist. Am I now going to be bound to a life of burger flipping?

Misdemeanor trespass? No. You may have to explain it to admissions officers, but I know guys in my law school class that had convictions (x2) for DWI, minor in possession of alcohol, disorderly conduct, etc, and they all passed the bar and were admitted to practice. Felonies are oftentimes a different story, but a simple misdemeanor (assuming that there was no physical violence involved) probably won't even be an issue.

Depends on the state... you can get a lawyer to get your records expunged. A misdemeanor should not hold you back from a job or grad school, but don't count on a political future....ever.

If the incident occurred in Florida, the pertinent statute may be Section 943.059, F.S. for qualifications for sealing a record at www.flsenate.gov.

Request for expungement of your criminal record by claiming that it was an admission for convenience at an early age when you are not yet aware of its consequences. Fight for your right as provided for in the law in order to have a good future.
