I'd appreciate an answer from someone in the legal profession on this one. I recall watching Gen. Powell's (aka Ambassador Powell) 'case' in demonstrating Iraq's possession of WMD. I thought the entire presentation was laughable and ludicrous--showing railroad cars and trucks, and stating their were weapons in them; playing recordings between two Iraqis mentioning 'horrible weapons.' Aerial photos showing buildings puportedly being used to develop weapons, etc. I taught freshman English at the time and would probably have given an "F" to a student who argued a case using such unverifiable evidence. This was the initial charge leveled against Iraq, and the moment his presentation ended, I was in disbelief anyone would consider such 'evidence' legitimate. How on earth did anyone believe that garbarge?

I had sex with my boyfriend before my marriage. After marriage my husband recognised that I was not virgin. Now He has started torturing me. He is always mentioning that his life is finished due to me only because I was not virgin. But I am a committed woman. He is also torturing my parents by words. He is now in abroad. Police negotiators will try to talk a person out of suicide, if they get the chance (If they are called on). Conservative politicians will make it illegal for euthanasia (doctor-assisted suicide), and jail a person for doing it, but the government cannot guarantee the happiness of its citizens, monetarily, socially, or otherwise. A person who is single and wants to be married cannot ask the government for any kind of effective help in this. So, what gives the government the right to prevent a miserable citizen from having a pleasant death? If euthanasia were legal, and a legal business (not just for the chronically ill), there might be less crime, because miserable people wouldn't be forced to live. Your thoughts? How is it OK for the government to keep us from a pleasant, deliberate demise, when they won't even help us with what we need?

What happened to freedom of speech? I asked a question about whether a person would become a terrorist if the government went to far in the interest of 'national security'. One of the joke answers that I got back was "I'm sure someone from the FBI will be knocking on your door in the morning."

This got me thinking. What would it take from me to make that happen. Recently Australia has been flooded with news stories about the David Hicks case in Guantanamo Bay, and one of the most recent was that the military lawyer wished to prosecute the Australian defence for comments made against president Bush. This was very closely followed by a denial by the Military lawyer cited in the story.

But how would such a story be possible, if people didn't believe that the government is slowly taking away the power of free speech from the populace?

So my question is, What (if anything) has happened to Free Speech and what restrictions now apply?

Please explain and site examples. Thanks.

I was in an auto accident 3 years ago. I was driving on a long street where there is hardly any traffic and this guy was coming off the freeway without stopping when there was a stop sign for him, and I crashed into him. My car was totaled and nothing happened to his. The police report said he was at fault. I had to pay out of my own pocket money for a rental while I had to go shopping for another car, and my car was already paid for! I never got reimbursed or anything. The guys insurance never went to the garage where it was stored to take photos, and the insurance agent I had was no help, so I just let it go because I had to make all the necessary phone calls from work because it's too late when I get home. I want to to know if the time limit is up to take that guy to court and get something out of it since I had to pay for a rental and a new car

I've had to cancel a contract with a landlord just 4-5 hours after paying him, and even though he said that if a tenant didn't live there for more than 6 monthes, he can keep all of it. So the landlord kept $100 when I returned the keys. Then I found out that it was illegal for houseowners to rent basements to other people to live in, but I've also heard that there were some exceptions.
I heard that a basement without a fire escape is illegal to rent, but what if there's a little fire extinguisher in the kitchen area. and the bedroom has adaquate lighting although the bathroom is really dim, and the ceiling is very short, and the hot water has to run for 3-5 minutes before it gets warm. the landlord also told me that he only accept cash payment because he doesn't have a checking account (I wonder if he pays taxes on rent). anyone who knows better about the rental law please let me know if this legal and if not can I get my money back? they should make laws to protect tenants from this
