I've heard anecdotes about U.S. Citizens being offered knighthoods and declining because we're not... supposed to accept such titles. Also, here in the United States Code: http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/html/uscode08/usc_sec_08_00001448----000-.html it states that a foreign national must renounce any such titles when becoming a citizen, but what does the law say about accepting such a title when you're already a citizen?

Just wondering because a friend of mine does it frequently and I've been thinking of joining him in the hunt for garbage.

I have a friend who assault the property manager in our building in Sept. He attempted to strangle him in anger. There are 5 witnesses. The property manager wants money for the damage and will not let go of the charges. My friend goes to trial on Feb 27. I cannot testify for either of these people because I would face severe questioning etc. I want to tell the presecutor that my friend has a bad temper and often denies things and is full of himself and what he can do etc to get him some treatment without jail time and to stop the property manager from collecting a large sum of money because I think the Property manager is a little money hungry himself. How do I go to the court house and tell someone without getting involved in the court trial. Who do I talk to and how unanonymous can I be???
My friend stand to lose alot of money in paying a few lawyers to gt him off and also if he is convicted.
Although I like my friend he does have a very bad temper and is extremely angry at times.

My brother in law recently signed over his rights to his daughter so that her stepfather could adopt her. He has not heard anything since as to if she has been adopted or not. Since he signed over his rights, does he even have a right to know if the adoption has taken place?

I work with Texas Instruments equipement all the time and would like to advertise my services in a magazine. The ad I have lists many things about me, and also mentions that I'm a member of Texas Instruments Network Program.

Do I have to get permission to use Texas Instruments name in an advertisement? I'm sure their name is trademarked or copyrighted.

Thanks,

Don

Now, there used to be a person living in the house I'm in that had the same name and last name as me, but different middle names, that person did not pay his credit card and cell phone bills when he moved. Now those companies call daily and demand that I pay them the debt and threaten with sending the police to my home. I have told them millions of times that its not me, they even gave me the social security number of the person that has the debt and its not the same as mine, and they demand I give them my social security number so they can double check. What can I do to stop them from harrasing me once and for all?

I am no longer in good terms with these people but they contunue using my address. I told them to stop and it further strained the relationship. One of them has even used it to get a new drivers license. I return the mail to the sender but I get mail to them from courts, the dmv, and other important places. How do I make them stop???

I recently remembered that I was secually abused over a period of 6 months when I was 4 which I repressed the memory of. I'm 18 and have commited fraud - I know knows it was a disgusting thing for me to do but do you think i could be a statistic becuase of what happaned when i was younger. I was also off the rails when i was abit younger, could it, again, be a reason why? BTW I'm just curious I'm using it as an excuse or anything like that. Thanks.

I have a 55 year old only sister that does not work, has been subsidized living expenses by her parents all her life, is a somewhat functioning alcoholic, and has called and left scary and abusive messages on parents answering machine about everyone in the family for several years and vandalized their property when she gets mad on several occasions. They put up with it because well...she is their daughter. She is very crafty and would not admit that she needs professional help.

Now that our parents are getting on in years and won't be with us any longer....any advise what I can we legally and permanently do to protect myself and my daughter from her abuse. (We have a feeling she will need someone else to use as a target for her abuse when parents are gone.) Baring us having to move to another city where she can't find us. Note: Parents are wanting to give me and my daughter Power of Attorney over their estate and this won't set well with her at all.

Today Wisconsin's governer has proposed a state wide smoking band that would include taverns and restaurants. Me and my brother have been debating this. We both aren't smokers. To me I'd like it because I have sinus problems and the smoke kills me when I out. Not to mention the smell from other's habit. He claims that there is no real proof that second hand smoke is harmful. And is concerned about losing a civil liberty. What are your thoughts and opinion?

There are strong suspiscions amongst my colleagues that someone (a healthcare professional) smokes dope in the toilets whilst on duty. It is common knowledge that they smoke it outside work. This week there was a strong smell of dope in the communal locker room. The person concerned was then seen coming out of an adjacent toilet. Obviously no-one acutally saw him smoking, but this follows a similar event last year.

Legally, where does the employer stand? Can you sack someone for smoking dope at work? Would you have to prove it affected their work? What level of proof would you need? Can an employer demand people have drugs tests? Would everyone need to be tested (clearly someone has been smoking dope at work even if the wrong person is suspected). Obviously the employer wishes to avoid being taken to an employment tribunal for sacking someone unfairly. Does the NHS have its own guidelines on this?

Sorry if thats more than one question! Any info would be appreciated.

Is this just a no win issue or is hope on the horizon with this new discovery?

Stem cell researchers reacted with enthusiasm and reservations to a report that scientists have found stem cells in amniotic fluid, a discovery that would allow them to sidestep the controversy over destroying embryos for research. Researchers at Wake Forest University and Harvard University reported Sunday that the stem cells they drew from amniotic fluid donated by pregnant women hold much the same promise as embryonic stem cells.

Dr. George Daley, a Harvard University stem cell researcher, said the discovery shouldn't be used as a replacement for human embryonic stem cell research.
One of the more promising aspects of the research is that some of the DNA of the amnio stem cells contained Y chromosomes, which means the cells came from the babies rather than the pregnant moms.

If it is so dangerous, (which I am not completely disputing) then surely the RSPCA would have been on our cases long before the NHS realised anything. I have never heard of any pets with smoking related illnesses. Surely they are as passive smoking as humans in the same environment?

A friend of mine brought her Grandmother's 15 diamond ring to a well know jewelry store to be reset for her upcoming wedding. The store called her and told her they cannot find the ring. What is she entitled to legally? Does she need to sue the store?

Thanks!
