Because it is illegal to kill people. The word fetus is Latin for unborn child. Many people who have had abortions experience PAS Post abortion Syndrome ( Sort of like the Syndrome Vietnam Vets sometimes face)
Abortion can cause the death of the mother

I once knew a woman who had an abortion, that caused scar tissue to form on her uterus, when she was finally ready to have a child she had multiple miscarriages (I think it was 8)
when she finally gave birth her child had cerebral palsy.
There have even been cases of parents forming a suicide pact after realizing what they did.

If your friend is pregnate PLEASE tell her to contact a crisis pregnacy center, that will give her options beside abortion and they may even let her see her baby now!

while I am not one of those "pro-life" people....I have my own feelings on this issue. First I feel the gov't is getting into issues they don't belong in.Second, I don't believe in using abortion as a means of mistakes a person makes in this day and age of all the birth control available free at health clinics out there Third, you have thousands of people out there dying to have a child who would give that baby a loving home Fourth, I don't think the mother has been given enough options to chose from before thinking that abortion is the "only" option left to her.
As for legal...its for that woman to decide..not a legal issue...but for me....I couldn't do it...I would have to go to a home for unwed mothers and let some loving couple adopt the child and let abortion be in cases of a health issue for a mother or in case of rape....but thats not me expecting...as I said its a mothers choice and she is one has to live with her decision the rest of her life

Because it's the murder of an individual with a unique genetic composition that may never have lived in the history of our race, and may never ever live for as long as man exists.

What if Winston Churchill was aborted?

What if George Washington was aborted?

Charlemagne?

Moses?

Solomon?

You?

The typical argument for banning abortion is that it is immoral and it is killing a living thing. Supposedly the fetus can feel pain and has emotions and reactions so it is also torture.

This is not what I believe, and I have no idea if any of it is true, but these are arguments pro-lifers use.

You mean besides the possibility that it is the deliberate taking of a human life? If independent human life does begin at conception (as many people believe) then it is murder (in the moral, if not legal sense).

Under American law, independent life does not begin until birth so it does not violate murder statutes.

It's violating the unborn baby's human rights to life.
It's harmful to women in many ways: emotionally (women are much much more likely to suffer from depression/attempt suicide within 2 yrs of the abortion), physically (higher risk of breast cancer plus complications with the procedure to begin with).
It's harmful to our society.
It's harmful to the integrity of the family.
It's harmful to our economy, if the large number of unborn people hadn't been killed in the womb, we wouldn't be facing the type of financial crisis that we are facing- ie more workers paying taxes to cover Medicaid, Social Security, etc..
It makes it very easy to cover up crimes like incest, rape.

if you could just be there, by the gurney, see it-hear it-smell it- and see the baby jerking as it dies...you would have your answer if you had any heart at all.
