Law & Ethics - November 2006

An interview with OJ will air on November 26 and 27th on FOX, and he will be explaining IF he was guilty, what he would of done and how we would have done it. The reason I ask, is because if he does come out and say it, he is safe from being convicted of murder because of Double Jeopardy. BUT, if he testified on the stand and said he did not kill anyone while under oath, he is guilty of perjury and could very well be convicted of that and sent to prison. I'm just curious, and a lot of websites don't tell ya if he did or not.

I was recently served with an eviction notice due to faliure to pay my water bill but when i first moved in and signed the lease i was told that water was paid and that is why i moved in one less bill, so now all of a sudden they are gonna throw me out for not paying something i never even got billed for. They gave me 3 days to move out is that legal i thought thay were supposed to give you a month? Where do they want me my hubby and 4 kids to go in 3 days? My ? is should they give me more than 3 days and i'm not paying for something that was never billed and i was not supposed to in the first place. My lease still has another month on it so if we do leave that will go on my creit and i will still get charged for it can i take them to corurt for that?

M.P. Thompson, Modern Land Law:
"Under the Land Registration Act 2002, only legal easements will override a registered dispoistion (Land Registration Act, Sched. 1, para. 3; and Sched. 3, para 3)...... "

Land Registry Practice Guide 62 (March 2005):
"An easement (legal or equitable) expressly granted on or after 13 October 2003 over registered servient land cannot be an overriding interest".....(there is no reference for this in this practice guide however).

So is it just me, or is this contradicting? Are they, or are they not overriding interests? If they are, what is the reference for this?

Thankyou, very confused!

If you agree with capital punishment, which of these do you rank as the most valid reason:
(A) It is cheaper than keeping them in prison for life.
(B) An eye for an eye.
(C) It is an effective deterrent and will reduce crime.
(D) It will create more space in prisons.
(E) Killing people is evil and it is our moral duty to punish them.
(F) DNA evidence has made the law infallible, so there is no reason not to.
(G) Something else?

Someone I know recently went to file a claim, because she was rapped and had other terrible things done to her by this man she knew. She recently heard that they are taking this to court and she has to be there. She told them that she wants to drop the charges and they told her to go to court and say she wants to drop it. The reason she wants to drop it is because she is afraid. I don't feel she should drop it. My question is, is it possible that they will go ahead and tell her she can't drop it when she gets to court? She is 19 years old.

I went to the movie theater the other weekend to enjoy a show. While there, the man sitting directly in front of me was yakking into his cell phone. It didn’t bother me that much since it was prior to the movie’s start, as I had hopes that he’d stop once the movie began. However, my hopes soon faded, as despite the start of the movie, the man kept yakking into his cell phone.

Since this movie theater sported stadium style seating, I leaned forward and tapped the man on the shoulder. “Excuse me,” I began, “Do you mind ending your phone call or at least taking it outside of the theater?”

“Bite me, douchebag,” was his response. He then continued yakking into his cell phone.

Since this had happened to me in a previous theater experience, I had come well prepared this time for just such an event. Before coming to the theater, I had consumed some chili, pickled eggs and beer, not to mention dressed in a Scottish kilt with only a jock strap underneath.

I'm not trying to be sarcastic, I was just wondering how far can I go.

If you can sue tobacco companies, can I sue for example U. S. soldiers for bringing ragweed to Europe causing a huge wave of allergy? Or can I sue God (or His legal representatives) for making me born to a particular country, which would be discrimination?

Long story but here's the quick version. We were renting and still in contract, without any warnings the owners would just come in with their own keys to show people around (before we were even given leaving notice) the real estate agents weren't too bothered when we told them. We decided to give notice because we didn't want to put up with it anymore. We moved out on Monday and they were supposed to do the inspection and give us our deposits back. They were so horrible about it and we were there from 9am-7pm waiting for someone to sort it out for us. They guessed how much we would pay in bills (double than we had previously paid) and there was a broken hinge and they charged £85 for it and accused us of being liers for not reporting it. Can I take them to small claims or something? Is there a govornment body I can report them to?

i didn't describe the situation correctly, so im asking again.

1. My friend's (lets say he's rick) mother got sued for unpaid bills.
2. However, Rick's parents are not home currently, because they went to visit their relatives and take care of businesses for a few months. They won't be back until after the court date.
3. Can Rick represent his parents and pay the fees instead?
4. If not, the only solution to me seems like his parents' return and being present at the court. But if they fail to be present, they will get arrested?
if so, will they go straight to jail when they arrive at the airport?
5. I've heard leaving minor alone is illegal. If he calls the court and tells them his situation about parents' unavailabilty, won't that make his parents guilty?
Is there anyone he could report to for help?
6. Do you think negotiating with the landlord to drop the charges, by paying them the check right away---can be done?

I think the court date is real soon.what should he do
