My sons father has been in and out of jail since before he was born. I moved out of state when my son was 3 and there was no contact from his father. In 2003 he took me to court for visitation but he was going to prison and the judge gave him no visits. He got out of prison on April 14 of this year and has not tried to make contact. While he was in prison my son was visiting the grandmother every other sunday which stopped when her son got out of jail. Neither one of them have tried calling my son and they have my phone number it hasn't changed. I want to know if this is considered abandonment and if I can take him to court and have his parental rights taken away. My husband of 11 years has raised my son like his own and my son considers him his father and wants him to adopt him.

A reporter for the NY times recently asked Mayor Ray Nagin of New Orleans why the clean up efforts were taking so long. To this he replied Well you guys in New York can't even fix a whole in the ground and it's been five years. So lets be fair.

Mr. Nagin is clearly making reference to 9/11. I think this was an insinsitive remark made in attempts to cover his own inadequacies. What about you.

Yesterday was the WORST day of my life. I went to the Courthouse to get a background check for myself because I needed it for job purposes. To my surprise...I got arrested!!!!!!!! I have never had any kind of problems with the law, I am a decent citizen, married and with one child, I haven't even get a traffic ticket in my whole life.

The motive for my arrest was that I have a warrant for a check that I wrote in 2005. The weird thing is that I wasn't living in the United States from 2003 to 2006. When I asked them "to whom" and for "how much" was that check, they said that they didn't have any idea, and that they don't have that information and that I will find out next week in court.

Also, when they put the handcuffs in me, they DID NOT READ MY RIGHTS!!!, what should I do now??? My husband paid a bond of $500 and I have court next week. Any advices???

I signed a contract and got no copy of it. I have taken many items there and received very little money from them. The contract states 50/50 split on my items sold. I know for a fact my toddler bed sold for $100.00. I received only $25.00. The owner said it sold for $50.00. I am leaving this consignment store and I am having trouble getting any money I have made and getting the rest of my clothes. Also, when I was there I asked if any of my clothes sold. The owner said no. I saw here daughter there and she was wearing one of my outfits I had there to sell. Please help, I don't like talking to the owner, for this gets me nowhere. I need information on what action I should pursue. Thanks for any help you can give me!

Marriage is the celebration of love between two people. And it is an important institution. I know many gay couples who deeply love each other and raise children in a very loving environment. Sometimes more loving of an environment than a heterosexual couple can provide. So why should anyone who knows nothing of that love prevent these people from enjoying the same rights as the rest of the population?

We are about to go through a divorce. My husband is away on business and will talk about this over the phone with me (the fact that all our stuff is in his father's name so I can't touch it). He and his father are also running a fake business and making good money but all this money goes in an account with both names on it, once again so I can't touch it. He will also discuss this with me over the phone. I am recording our conversations. How can I use this? for instance: can I use it to get what is rightfully mine in a divorce? Can I use it to scare him into giving me what's mine? And can I hold it against him so he can't hurt me?

Honestly...What weapons are you permitted by law to carry?

One could argue a baseball bat is an arm.
Would you get stopped for a sword?...People carry them for 'Medievil Fair' so can I walk my dog with one?

This question isn't ment to be a joke. I have not recieved a clear answer on the abilty to bear melee weapons.

Example...I'm sure many can relate too.
I work construction - sometimes in Detroit. Just this week a company truck was broken into. Some jobs we pay people just to stand guard.
Long story short: When I have to walk around site, I clench a hammer, pipebender or what ever just incase.

Where does the law draw then line - because though I use a pipebender for work - it is also my defence. Therefore is it illegal for me to wield a pipebender? Or, is it legal for me to wield a mace?

Thanks for you time. Any links - law references are appreciated.

I just read in the news that an older brother, has been CHARGED with " failing to provide info." on is younger brother, who happens to be one of the remaining eight suspects, they arrested recently, for an ALLEGED terrorist activity, but the funny thing is that after over two weeks of evidence gathering, interrogation etc. , the very same police and crown prosecution services, have not seen it fit to charge the younger brother !
If after all this time in custody, the younger brother is still not charged, how the hell his older brother, should have suspected anything and grassed on him ?
What is next ? they are going to charge my next door neighbours, for an alleged crime, that I have not been charged for it yet ?
Why does the CPS not charge the younger brother first, possibly convict him and then charge people for not having grassed on their family members !

Airlines charged me $400 for excess baggage even though I haven't authorized the charge. I reported the incident to the airlines and the airlines wasn't willing to help because the airlines is in bankcruptcy. The card issuer says that I have to resolve with the merchant. How do I resolve this issue, I gave the card to airlines during boarding to just reterive the passanger information and I was charged for the outrageous amount. When I asked the card issuer to present me the copy of my signed statement to the merchant the card issuer is un-willing to do that. According to the card issuer presenting a card is proof of my authorization, which is hard for me to believe. I presented the card for one purpose and if it is used for some thing else I don't think I am responsible. Any help on how to resolve this issue is greatly appreciated.
