I'm a Conservative first, and a Republican second. Right now, the Republican party is the one viable party that most closely reflects my values.
Those values are:
1) Individual rights, and individual responsibility.
2) Self-esteem cannot be given, it can only be earned through accomplishment.
3) The Constitution should be followed as written and amended.
4) No person has a 'Right" to place a claim on my property, or the fruits of my labor.
5) Equality means equality of opportunity, not equality of outcome.
6) Free Market economies are fairer and work better than Command economies.
7) Wealth is not finite, and the economy is NOT a zero-sum game. Wealth is created whenever labor becomes fixed as a component in tangible goods.
8) National Defense is the first priority of government because without it, the nation will soon cease to exist.
I reject the notion that individuals should sacrifice for the good of the group. The group is an abstraction, an artificial construct based on whatever parameters the people in charge find convenient. Groups become strong as a result of the individuals within that group being strong, and individuals become strong only when there are incentives and rewards to do so. A certain amount of pragmatism is required, when you're dealing with instincts borne of 500 million years of evolution.
Please feel free to explain (he asked rhetorically) the Democratic plan for the U.S. and how it supports my values.

The real question is why anyone would be a democrate after 8 years of Bill Clinton. Clinton nose dived our economy that he inherited, ignored and downplayed terriorist attacks leading to 9-11, and of course had an opportunity to get Bin Ladin but viewed it as a police matter. Clinton's mess is what George W has had to clean up the last few years.
How can anyone be a democrate today? Here is a party that has extreme views that they are to afraid to go on the record about because most in America don't share those views. They have no plan other then "not being Republicans" and have horrible leadership like Nancy Pelosi.

TOP TEN REASONS TO STILL BE A REPUBLICAN.
10.) To get back at everybody for all the times I got beat up as a kid.
9.) Brain damage from all that cocaine.
8.) Still waiting for that Trickle-Down money Reagan promised me, seems kind of dumb to give up after this long.
7.) Don't tell anybody, but I'm a masochist.
6.) My used Ford Explorer already had four Bush/Cheney bumper-stickers covering up the holes in my Firestones.
5.) Ann Coulter gave me a Lewinsky once or twice.
4.) Don't tell anybody, but I'm a sadist.
3.) That Dick Cheney seems like a pretty cool guy.
2.) I've been this way ever since the Aversion Therapy and the lobotomy.
1.) I was being blackmailed.

Well, because I hate it when a bunch of lazy democrats want to take my hard earned money and give it to more lazy democrats. Democrats see the tax code as a means to redistribute wealth, whereas I see it as a way to raise revenue.
Also, I do not like killing babies. And considering that it was the Democrat part that was the party of slavery, the party of segregation, the party of Jim Crow, the party of Dred Scott, the party of the KKK, the party of lynching, the party of church-burning....I think as a black man who owns his own business, loves Jesus, and believes that freedom is innate to the human condition rather than granted by government, I am safer as a member of the party that sponsored the civil rights legislation of the 60's, led the charge to end segregation, freed the slaves, put black people in office and on the bench, as well as being the party that built our national park structure, our national bank, and made sure that constitutional guarantees are granted to ALL Citizens, even if they are black.
Because I actually read history, I am a Republican.

Do you understand the difference between the 2 parties?
Republicans feed the top and let it trickle down. If business gets better, ir wants to grow, and stimulate society.
Democrats feed the bottom and hope that people work their way up.
Keeping that economic principal in mind, understand that people on the botom can become institutionalized in to thinking that they can exist happily by living of the government. Why work when I get paid not to? Why try to better myself when good enough is good enough?
If you're referring instead to the moral issues, let me just say this: Having morals and a sense of right and wrong is not a bad thing. More people could use it.

I'm sorry, but you democrats just don't seem to understand that there is a war which we did not declare and that there are people who wish to eradicate you and I based solely on religious differences. I too would like a peaceful world, but our tolerance and self-righteousness has only made those who hate us stronger. The enemy will not play by any rules and we go out of our way to protect them. How do you think those who lost their lives to protect you feel when they hear you people whining?

Why would anyone be a Republican OR a Democrat? Why wouldn't you prefer independant thinking on each issue instead of following a certain party? Would take a small mind to follow or dismiss either party completely.

I am a republican because I believe in what the party stands for. I have lived the life of a real person and have seen what the "liberals" have done to this country and I dont like it. I would become a democrat but I dont want the lobotomy.

because thank God it's a free country. not all repub's. are oil men. the demo's are indicisive and the others screw up the voting process taking votes away from the two major parties. so, as long as we still have the option is good, bad enough we're headed quick to become, ' the coroporate country'. God forbid...
