Immigration - April 2007

It should be torn off because it no longer applies to our beliefs. Why portray a shining example of freedom when its really not our goal anymore. See below:

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me.
I lift my lamp beside the golden door."

Shouldn't it read.

"If you're a tired, weak or a huddled mass, wanting freedom...bla..bla..bla, please take a number until we call your name. Otherwise Liberty is closed until further notice."

Its obvious. In a question asked recently, a person said that all Mexicans are illegal immigrants. And people who corrected him (because any person with a brain knows this is not true) gave a thumbs down.

Most people here do hate Mexicans, not just illegal immigrants, but Mexicans. Its obvious from that question and the answers given.

Where are all of the people that said that the illegals have taken away jobs. My friend who has a 240 acre cherry grove will probably lose most of his crop because most of the illegals are not signing up for work this year out of fear of raids. He is wondering where all the people who are willing to work these jobs that are legal?

How do you feel about the immigration issue?

2007-04-13 07:28:33 · 20 answers · asked by DJ C 4

Why does it seem that those who may have come here illegally get on this forum and are quick to point out anything bad about legal Americans or White Americans and want to pick fights with people. or even think that their race is responsible for giving us things that we had long before they were here? I know I will get all sorts of anwers I expect it just be honest and keep it clean I don't want your name calling or belittling of other races, backgrounds etc... If you don't understand what I am looking for don't answer it will be a waste of my time as well as yours. I don't have a problem with Mexicans or Latinos or anyone else who wants to be here and do it legally so don't go running off at the mouth about we are all racist. Just tell me why if you think you are allowed to be here that you can't or won't take the time to fill in the appropriate paperwork so we know who you are and allow you to enjoy ALL of the freedoms that come with being an American.

I am an Immigrant myself, I'm from Acapulco
Do u think I want to leave my beutifull home town?
I went to med school but we were so poor so I had to strugle between work and school something no easy to do when you are at a high level education on any country, plus the future for MD's or any other professional on Mexico is not the same then here. There are a lot of people like me on this country, we are not just berries pickers.
We are educated people looking for a better life.
So next time you see a dark skin guy thing about the surfer with and MD degree on his country and not just a regular cherry picker.
tx
ps: excuse my ESL. still working on my final essay.

We are Iranians and we live in US and my wife is a US citizen. She sponsered me to get green card and now after 2 years and couple of interviews I still have not received my green card. I have been in this country since 1994, as a Student and then on H1 visa and never had any immigration or legal problems and in past 14 years I never been back to Iran just a 3 months trip to Canada for job training.

The Founding Fathers said it themselves that the country is run by the citizens via vote.

Well American citizens want secure borders and immigration law enforcement to the fullest and it does not seem to be happening. Why is that?

Sure we got the ICE raids and law enforcement here and there but that does not seem to be enough.

That as long as they go in and pay taxes the IRS will not turn them over to immigration. And immigration is pretty upset over it. Your thoughts!!

I have lived in Canada all of my life, and I am dying to travel the world, but I want to stay longer in places then a "vacation", so I'll need a job, which required a work visa. Which seems to be more valuable then gold. Why are we jailed into our countries of origin? I mean, shouldn't it be easier to move around this globe? Are we all just slaves of the governmental rules? I have a degree in jewellery design, am a body piercer, know two languages, am a kickass waitress. I am not a freeloader, nor am I someone looking for refuge, nor do I have a large family, nor am I looking to become a citizen or even stay longer then a couple of years. Is everyone feeling this? Am I missing something?

Oh and save the "I don't know" answers, thanks.
