Where are all of the people that said that the illegals have taken away jobs. My friend who has a 240 acre cherry grove will probably lose most of his crop because most of the illegals are not signing up for work this year out of fear of raids. He is wondering where all the people who are willing to work these jobs that are legal?

People need more money, not to mention it's probably a temporary job and you can't survive on that, nor can you leave a job for that short of a period of time. There are jobs I'm sure that we do need them for. Just wish they'd go back home when it's done and not drag the entire family along to feed off the system and take jobs from citizens when your friends temp work is over. There IS a LEGAL TEMPORARY visa. Has he tried that route? Has he put an add in the paper? Has he put the offer in at temp agencies? I'm afraid I live too far away to travel for a few cents and a temp situation or I would give it a go.

Well maybe these people are out finding jobs that can actually pay bills and support their families. I'm sure your friend doesn't have to pay the illegals much and probably with no benefits. I think that should sum it all up!!

His mistake was to hire people at slave wages and then depend upon them. Offer real wages with some benefits and
he'll draw some workers, perhaps even some real Americans. Ask your friend if he would work under the same circumstances.
Public support is not on his side.

Will he pay minimum wage? Probably not..there's your answer! Also, why is your friend willing to risk his crop? Why doesn't HE go pick the cherries?

Many of them are in Mexico. They could come here with proper documentation and work.
