I have lived in Canada all of my life, and I am dying to travel the world, but I want to stay longer in places then a "vacation", so I'll need a job, which required a work visa. Which seems to be more valuable then gold. Why are we jailed into our countries of origin? I mean, shouldn't it be easier to move around this globe? Are we all just slaves of the governmental rules? I have a degree in jewellery design, am a body piercer, know two languages, am a kickass waitress. I am not a freeloader, nor am I someone looking for refuge, nor do I have a large family, nor am I looking to become a citizen or even stay longer then a couple of years. Is everyone feeling this? Am I missing something?
Oh and save the "I don't know" answers, thanks.

It's not as difficult as you may think. Where do you want to go?

The problem is that for countries, like yours, that subsidize services for people with no money, people who live pay check to pay check often end up using services paid for by others, if only to send their children to school without being able to pay the $10,000 per year per child that costs the state (using California numbers.) The fact is that it is unlikely a Canadian would run for better benefits in another country, which is why it is easy for you to get a tourist visa (fewer from your country overstay illegally.) However, the rules are set up because so many poor and working class do come illegally, and cost countries and their citizens billions of dollars, not to mention overcrowded schools and failing education for their own people.
Logically, some sort of 'work exchange' visa allowing you to go to a similarly subsidizing country to your own when you find a worker in similar financial circumstances to 'match' you coming from that country to your own country would make sense, economically. Politically, however, I don't see it happening.

Employment isn't just short of supply in your country, my country, it's everywhere. So getting a visa is really tougher and sometimes impossible to get unless you apply for one months, even a year, in advance. In this case, "Don't count your Chickens until the Hatch."
I know exactly what you are saying, because of the overly protective societies keeping a person from traveling to some place for just the holidays.
Getting to know the locals on your own grades, of understanding about the world, could be so much more fun.
See ya. As they say in Switzerland, "Enjoy".

You are pointing the contradiction of capitalism... free movement to money, but not to persons.
Giving you (and ginig to anyone else) the posibility to reside anywhere will be a danger for some countrys and his economy.... world is very bad distributed, you know... money is accumulated in some places, and a few people has millions, and, in the same time, millions live with less than a dollar.
Do you really think the politicians will let these people to move freely??
they do not want immigrant... thay want cheap workers in their own countries...
but you want to move... maybe you are looking fior a privilege, considering your origin... if a refugee can not move eayly, why would you be in a privileged situation??? just because you want "to travel" and stop feeling bored in your country??

Some countries are more restrictive than others. The U.S. and Canada are probably two of the most liberal countries in that regard. I know firsthand that many Asian countries are very restrictive when it comes to accepting foreigners as residents. I am from the U.S., my wife is from Malaysia. We both discussed the pros and cons of either me moving there or her coming here to the U.S. before we were married. We both finally decided that it would be far easier for her to move here, become a resident, and find a permanent job, than it would have been for me as an American to try and emigrate to Malaysia. Many countries just do not accept immigrants - most of the Asian countries are this way.

When we travel, the places we go to want to ensure you do not feed from their trough so to speak.
They do not want people showing up a the door with their hands out. It is expensive to feed those who refuse to work. It is expensive to find those who do wrong and hide in the crowd.
The world is torn upside down today and we all need to ensure we do not open our doors to thieves and terrorists. Yesterday, all you needed were two feet to go anywhere. If you had a horse, you could travel quicker.
We no longer live in that world.

Looking at all the other questions involving people wanting fake passports, how to cheat at immigration, etc.
While I realize the majority of immigrants are good hardworking people, the bad ones are ruining it for the others.

I do feel the way you do, and wish things were as they once were 500 years ago or more. At that time one just paid boarding ship passage and went wherever they wanted for however long they chose to remain.
