It should be torn off because it no longer applies to our beliefs. Why portray a shining example of freedom when its really not our goal anymore. See below:

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me.
I lift my lamp beside the golden door."

Shouldn't it read.

"If you're a tired, weak or a huddled mass, wanting freedom...bla..bla..bla, please take a number until we call your name. Otherwise Liberty is closed until further notice."

Not part of the original statue!

That's even worse, it came after.

I'm writing a bill to have it removed. It's not applicable to Islam or South America, so tear it down!

I believe in keeping out terrorist, but the last one they caught was in Michigan and was American.

To Nick:

The whole idea of the United States is to have different people believe different ideas and not be under the penalty of any government.

I don't think they teach that anymore.

I think it should read ...

sorry we are closed
because it is just about me
I own this damn rock don't you see

It is all about money
And it is just about time
That you work to give me
what is lawfully mine.

I am an American
who never sees
the horizons beyond the suburb
where we always be

Because you are different
And because I'm so kind
Get away from my house

Or I will shoot you!

... nice people.

I am a christian
and you, well, are not
So don't tread in my church
you filthy snot.

I can go on but I will quit
because I can not take
anymore of this sh!t

The problem comes with not being able to keep tabs on who the tired, poor, huddled masses ARE. If you're coming in under the radar, it's difficult to make sure you're doing your part once you get on your feet. THAT'S part of the reason we have legal ways to become US citizens. While our country is certainly in a category all its own, there STILL needs to be a method to the madness. The sentiment SHOULD still remain (and I'm glad that you reminded ME of it today), but there MUST be an orderly way to do it. If everyone comes in needing to be rescued, our resources will become depleted and we'll ALL be tired, poor, huddled masses.

But you're right- the plaque doesn't really convey what we, the people, actually think anymore. It's a shame we can't have (or aren't having) it both ways- taking in anyone who wants a shot at the good life while still maintaining order and stability.

they have not been bumped off for quite a few motives. the biggest reason is because it prices funds and is amazingly no longer a precedence. we've all sorts of alternative issues the authorities should be spending funds on before fixing landmarks. 2d, even notwithstanding Christianity is the most customary faith interior u . s . a . we attempt to be accepting of all faiths and beliefs. Tearing down a Pagan goddess to change it with a flow should be quite offensive to Pagan individuals. next, it replaced right into a present from the French. If we tore it right down to change it with some different person they could be indignant. They should not be, yet why threat overseas kinfolk? also i'm quite positive it really is secure because it really is a nationwide landmark and won't be able to be in basic terms torn down and adjusted.

I guess now would be a good time to point out that when the Statue of Liberty was erected in 1886, the Chinese Exclusion Act was in full force & effect - the only time the U.S. government has banned immigration of a specific nationality. If Lazarus' New Colossus applied then, it certainly applies now. We do let immigrants come... through the right process. There were immigration laws then, too.

That poem, was written about the legal immigrants who immigrated legally, and were checked in at Ellis Island, where they underwent background checks, health exams, and were recorded, as legal immigrants, where they were "documented", because they were honest people and they came to the USA in the right way.

It has nothing to do with what is happening on our southern border, the shameful disrespect of this nation, our history, our sovereignty, out laws, our citizenship. The mess of illegal immigration cheapens the value of our nation, undermines our security, weakens our laws, and enrages our citizens.

See where it is?
Far from the US/Mex border.
If Lady Liberty could see what is going on in the southwest states of this nation, she would be weeping for this great nation, for the disrespect of everything we have been, everything we stand for, the dishonor of all these people who have no respect for the land our ancestors died protecting and building.
The disrespect of our flag, watching people walk through our cities, stomping our nations flag under their feet, while American heros who love this nation are across the sea putting their lives on the line, so we can be safe from danger, and that is what your pro-amnesty marchers do to our flag.
You should all be very ashamed of yourselves.

You will never have the sympathy of the citizens of this nation, because of what you have done.

A lot of people would changed their minds about immigration if they knew the facts.

(1) Almost all grandchildren of immigrants (including Mexican) speak only English and are productive workers.

(2) For over half of this country's history, we had no laws restricting immigration.

(3) The normal wait time for legal immigrants from Mexico (if they don't already have family here) is over 15 years.

(4) Illegal immigrants are not eligible for welfare.

(5) Immigrants create jobs. The most populous countries are the richest.

(6) There aren't enough unemployed Americans to do all the jobs done by illegal immigrants.

100% YES!!!!! The United States is quickly becoming one big homeless shelter, and pretty soon, there will no majority group to keep the government in order and enforce laws. We will be a nation of many different parties, each one wanting a different USA (i.e.- the recipe for collapse)

Well, back then the immigrants that came here were determined to take advantage of opportunies for education and upward mobility, by suppoting themselves. They were not only willing but eager and proud to assimilate into American culture (speaking English, following our laws, coming here legally). Don't compare illegal aliens from mexico to the first wave.

If this is the justification for allowing illegals in here, then YES we should take down the plaques.

It said nothing about allowing ILLEGALS in to this country. Why is so hard for you and those pea brains like you to understand LEGAL immigration is welcomed. ILLEGALS should be shot on sight. Since you have Internet access, look up both of those words. Don't think just because you throw the bleeding heart book at us, we will start singing, "coom by yah", with you. Use what little intellect you have and learn the difference between those two words.

If you knew what you were talking about, you would realize how dumb your question is!

First of all, the FRENCH build the Statue of Liberty.

Second of all, the Statue of Liberty plaque is not the rule of law.

Thirdly, it is NOT a invitation for criminals to come and invade our country.

And the USA is allowing more legal immigrants now then ever before!

Duh!
