I am not refusing to learn languages. I speak English, Spanish, little bit of French and Arabic.
Don't generalize.
How many languages do YOU speak?

As a Mexican - American who has known thousands of others like myself, I have to say that there are zero Mexicans who were born and lived in the USA all their lives who cannot speak English. Anyone who went through the school system had to learn English. Now many of them never spoke English until they went to school. But they speak English now. People who cannot speak English were not born in this country and never went to school here. They may have lived here all their adult lives and never learned English.

What is wrong with your English?
The correct way of phrasing that question is:
"Why do Mexicans who were born in the USA, and who have lived here their entire lives, refuse to learn English?
Ironically, they claim to deserve to be US citizens."
My goodness, what is your first language?

Some really greats posts you guys. Obviously this poster is a fool.
I too have never met anyone who has refused to learn English. Obviously those born on American soil will learn English in school, but those who immigrate are usually too busy working to attend actual classes where they can learn English. Also they work with other Spanish speakers, go home to Spanish speaking friends and family, and now they can watch sattelite tv in Spanish so they don't even get exposure to learning English via television.
I feel it is a lack of opportunity that prevents their learning, not their own refusal to learn. Ask them, they'll tell you they want to learn English.
Come on poster! Who wouldn't want to master the language of the country they are in? Nobody!

Well first the correct way to phrase the question is to replace
Mexican with Hispanics. And Hispanics who were born here depending on age and other factors, are either bilingual or speak English only. I was born here, and have lived here all my life, my parents were also born here and they are both bilingual. But you question doesn't make any sense, because as its already been stated, if your born here your're a citizen.

If they were born here they learn English in school. They probably speak Spanish at home since their parents are refusing to learn English.
It is also easy to pretend that you don't speak English when you don't want to comply with a request (e.g., I was already sitting here waiting for the Disney parade, get off my feet! - this really happened to me.)

First of all, they are citizens, so I don't know why they would have to "claim to deserve to be". Secondly, do you have any proof of this at all, or are you just spreading the hate? There are many cultures that have very tight knit families and want to keep their traditions strong, but that doesn't mean they don't love America. Just because one person might not want to learn english for whatever reason, doesn't mean you should lump all Mexicans into the same category! Weren't you ever told not to judge a book by its cover??

I have never met an Mexican-American that was not fluent in English. Some of them do not even know Spanish. You are grasping at straws here to make a very weak point.

1) If they were born here, they ARE citizens.
2) They can't refuse to learn English, that is what is taught in school.
3) You could take some English classes yourself

if you're born the in the US, and you lived here your whole life....you aren't mexican. you're american. mexican is a nationality. so.....since i wasn't born in france, and i've never been there...i'm not french. i'm just a jerky US citizen who refuses to stop speaking french. my choice. but do i know english...of course. ANYONE raised in the US whose attended school for more than 1 year knows basic english, and if you've been led to believe otherwise, you have been totally fooled.
