I have a red ear slider that I think is gravid. What's the best combo of sand, soil and water? She hasn't eaten in a week and the male keeps doing his mating dance. Her back end is swollen and she's basking more and more. I have a big plasic container to put the nesting area, just need to know the right combination of sand, soil and water. Thanks

Our leopard gecko has changed her eating habits drastically. When we first got her she ate quite a bit. Now she is eating less and we are very worried about her. She is not old, maybe a year and a bit. Is this a sign that she is ready to bread. Her size has not changed at all, she is quite chubby. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a young Iguana in a 55 gallon tank. He is very well pampered with everything perfect in his tank. 60-70 percent humidity, 80-90 degrees on one side and 70-75 on the side that he sleeps. I change the water every day, he eats an excellent diet. I handle him at least 30 mins a day, I honestly do everything according to the book and yet he keeps looking like he is scrambling for his life every time I try to pick him up. He has never bit me, but a few mins after I grab him he uses the open mouth threat. I feel bad because I'm doing everything right, but he still seems to hate me. Is there anything I can do to change his behavior or do i have to wait for him to get older and more mature.

I took him to the vet about a few months ago because he had a shell infection due to fluid underneath his shell or something similar, and his belly was red then too, but the vet didn't/doesn't know why. I've tried feeding him better and healthier, and the redness and inflamation has gone down slighly, but I don't know what is causing this, and my knowledge concerning turtles goes pretty far. I am clueless here though. Any ideas as to what could be causeing the inflamation and redness?

I got this email and it said all kinds of neat facts! The one that really caught my eye was that turtles can breathe through their butts. I just want to know if it is really true!! If so, thats awsome!! :)

I was at my local pet shop earlier and i saw that they started selling live feeder mice... they were small but were living without an adult to feed on... i also noticed that one was on mouse wheel. They had to have just matured... because they were so tiny... anybody have a guess on what feeder stage they were in? I ask because they were labeled as fuzzy and they looked too big. I also noticed they are cheaper to buy live.. any ideas on how to kill them? I plan on freezing them anyway... but this way i know they are fresher

I just noticed these bumps today. His tank has an undercage heater but I check regularly and am pretty sure it couldn't cause a burn, but I don't know. He seems happy and comfortable. Any ideas out there??

My daughter owns a ball python. she hates rodnets so instead of live ones she brings her snake the frozen ones. The snake eats them without hesitation.

My question: how do they die before they are frozen. Do they go in some sort of gas chamber? are they fed some sort of poison?

anyone know? just curious

I have a male ball python, he is about 3 feet long, i've had him over a year, and no problem, only one mite problem, and it was cleared up quickly. He is due for a feeding (once every week to week and a half) but his skin looks dry, he is tinted all white, his belly isnt pink, and I dont think hes shedding, although it could be. Will it be okay if i put a little too much moisturizer on my hands, handle him so some gets on him, and maybe clears it up? i've looked on the internet quickly and can not seem to find anything about my question, i gave him fresh bottled water today (skin problem appeared yesterday) thinking my half and half mix of bottled water and tap water was still too much chlorine for him, and dried his skin....
he doesnt seem to have any less energy, he still goes all over his enclosure at night and sleeps during the day....
some one help me quick!

What do I need to get a frog terrarium going? Keeping it cheap, yet healthy for it. I'm thinking about getting one of those cute little $10 fellers. ^_^

I have a 2 year old female ball python who has been off feed for approx 2-3 months now. I've attempted to feed her over the last three weeks, but she has not expressed any interest. I figure she would know best when she's hungry. I was wondering whether they're smart enough not to starve themselves.
