In New Guinea's Highlands I had a metre long python. A happier companion you'll never find. Wrap herself around my she would affectionately (more likely it was for body heat!)

Without gender bias I called her "Odin".

It seemed to denote her power and unflappability.

Any other tough God name seems worthy of a snake. Theirs is a mystical quality that other animals just don't have.

Depends on what type of snake it is...

I currently have 10 snakes and we have tried to give them names according to the type of snake they are or their personality.

Normal Cornsnake, female --- Maizey (Maize is the word for indian corn)
Snow Cornsnake -- Frosty
Red Tail Boa --- Boaz
Ribbon Snake --- Tweak (because it acts like that character from South Park)
Rough scale sand boa -- Digory (it likes to dig in sand and name comes from Chronicles of Narnia book)

Etc...

Think about what type it is, or if you know any snakes in movies or folklore that you like the name of, use them.
I know many people have gone with slythern (not spelled right) from the Harry Potter series or Kaa from the jungle book, etc. The good thing is that snakes don't learn their names because they can't hear like we can. So, if you want to change it later, you won't hurt their feelings.

The most popular tend to be mythological, ironic (like Fluffy the Anaconda), or demonic. Snakes are usually considered bad@ss pets, so they typically get funky names like Zeus, Belial, or Peaches. Ours got named by my girl's daughter, so we have Fred (Burmese Python) and Mr. Snakey (Ball). I was going for Leviathan and Jörmungandr (The Midgard Serpent of Norse Mythology). How about Sif or Freya? Norse Goddesses kick butt.

i tend to like unique names - my current iguana is named taco, my rat is named verman, had other iguanas named lazer, buba, baby, spongebob (the kids named that one). we had another rat named ratly. my next iguana will be named fluffy. why not go with a traditional dog or cat name like rex, spot, rover, snowball, etc.

our corn snake is named isabella, but we call her izzy for short. it just fits her since we originally said "iz a she or iz a he." :-) it can be difficult to tell with snakes!
