I am an elementary science lab instructor, and I would like to have a pet that is reasonably easy to care for and WONT DIE. I have already had a chameleon, whcih kicked the bucket after about 2 weeks! I did not realize that our heat gets turned off at night and the poor guy got too cold! If I got a frog, which kind should I get? I am wanting to keep it in a 10 gallon terrarium. Do I need a heat light or rock (it gets down to about 65 degrees in here at night)? Should I get more than one? I guess, what I really need to know is if anyone has a type of frog they really like, or suggestions on what kind to get; I could get a book to learn the rest. Thanks for any suggestions!

I have two females in a 4ft by 2ft enclosure. They are a little over 4 inches, and both of them are healthy. During summer, they will be in a VERY large enclousure outside. (Its about 15x12ft)

My questions are:

Can aspen bedding be used as a bedding? I have it for my feeder insects, so I was wondering if Russian Torts could use it too.

Can alfalfa hay be used as bedding? Or timothy hay? Right now they are on paper towels for hygenic purposes.

I feed them a handful of greens a day. (each) Thats not too much or too little is it?

Their basking area is always between 85 and 94 degrees, and the rest of the cage is 70-80. This is not bad? They always move around and are mostly under the basking lamp.

Sorry for all the Qs. I researched these guys for about three months before getting them, and I want to make sure I'm doing it all right.

Thanks in advance!

It won't be for a couple months to a year, but I have a real fascination for snakes. I'm a girl, and I know that kind of factor in to atkd snake that I should get because I can't nd up with one that grows to be 10 ft long. I'm just kind of looking for suggestions right now, I don't think I want to get one that has to be live fed, maybe more just cricket feeding, but it can be fed live mice or whatever (i'll just have other people throw the mouse in there). Something that's "nice". I'm not afraid ot get bitten but I don't want it to be something regular. Well I think I've rambeled on long enough now.

My wife found a turtle in the garden, under the dirt. The shell is kind of greyish-brown, about 6'' long. It has a red stripe on its head, sort of an elongated diamond shape, with a yellow stripe below that. She's been feeding it lettuce, but I figure it must need/prefer other foods. What else will it eat?

I am currently getting a Bearded Dragon from a woman who can no longer care for it, and though I know my dragons, I'm not really certain which one this is.

She had gotten him from a pet store and so she really has no clue, so I thought I'd ask.

He's about 8 months old, 10-12 inches and definitely has ridges down his back, sides of his face and legs. His tail is about the only place smooth. His markings are red, gold and tan with slightly darker patches of brown swirled throughout his body. He's quite sweet and pretty gentle, though fast.

I thought maybe an Inland Bearded Dragon, but I wondered if someone could help me?

Thank you!

I have a 2 year old hermanns tortoise and her tank seems pretty bare. She has a background with plants and things on just to make it look a little more exciting. But other than that she only has a hut to sleep in and her water and food dishes. I'm not sure on what other things i can put in because I don't want to provide any hazards eg - rocks etc where she can climb on and may fall on her back. HELP!
