I want to buy my boyfriend a snake, one of those tiny little green ones but I have no idea where to even begin! Can I just go to PetSmart or would it have to be special ordered!? Help!

Are you talking about a rough green snake? Any of the large pet stores (PetSmart, Petco, etc.) may have them. It's chancey this time of year, because many suppliers don't like to ship animals during cold weather. If they don't have them in stock, speak to the manager - they can special-order one for you, but again, when it is shipped is up to the supplier. The store can call you when it arrives, so you can pick it up. In the meantime, you can start looking for the supplies he'll need to keep it. These aren't the easiest of snakes to care for - they don't like to be handled and it can be hard to get them to start feeding. They need lots of hiding places, and should only be handled when the tank is being cleaned.

There are other "green" snakes, the Asian vine snake (mildly venonous), and the emerald tree boa, but these are not recommended for beginners and would be best purchased from a breeder or reptile show.
