We inhereted 2 turtles from a family that moved away and could not take them. I think they are red slider turtles, although the family said they were Reeves turtles. In any case they came with a broken light and a cracked cage (nothing is truly free). So, we bought a brand new HUGE aquarium for these little guys with the right light, habbitat and filter system for turtles according to the pet store owner. But the very next day the water is cloudy. WHAT do we do? What did we do wrong? Please help! We want to be GOOD turtle owners!

I have 2 turtles. Their names are Toby and Johnny (my sister named him Johnny, I told her we should have named it Dexter, but she did'nt listen!) and there's only one thing that bothers me....
I'm not totally sure if it's a boy or girl or not....
So, when they are adults, I don't want to be freaked out if I find out that they are females....so yeah. I'm changing their names. I was trying to find a name that fits both boy and girl, so I was thinking about Alex and Daryn.

But Daryn reminds me of my cousin....who passed away. :(
and Alex is this really cute guy in my class, but I don't care about him, so I'm using the name anyway. It's not like I'm naming it after him. I just like the name. So I'm definetly using Alex. I'm not sure if I'm using Daryn. But I really really like that name. Here are other names I can't use cuz of personal reasons:

Sam/Sammi
Daniel/Danielle
Or any other weird food name like, "cupcake"
I also don't want a dumb name like "speedy"
I want a real one!

One of my students has a 5'9" python, which she allows to run loose in her one-bedroom apartment. The snake has broken the leg of a maintenance man in her apartment. How important is it, in general, that a big snake be kept in a cage? Could the snake turn on its owner at any second? Or might the snake really form a bond with the owner, as dogs do?

Turns out Red is a girly girl. Is there any way to preserve the egg, keep it from stinking up the house so he can keep it as one of his treasures, with the snake skins, beaver skull, bird feathers, etc..

It already has a hole in it from being reverently admired so it would have to be rinsed somehow. Right now it's in the refrigerator.

Help us out oh wise ones!

I found my turtle (Yellow Bellied Slider) outside work one day. She was really small like the size of a silver dollar at the time. I took her home with intentions to find a pond with other turtles to live in but weeks went by and I became attatched. Well she's about 4 1/2 inches now. Well taken care off and happy. Eventually (2-4 yrs yet) I will be moving out of florida due to military. If we move somewhere in which we cant bring our turtle with us I was considering contacting our local zoo which has tons of RES and Yellow Bellies in their park ponds. People always drop pellets in for them (seeing as its open the whole year) and such so I figure she would be ok living there even though she was raised and dependant on me for her food. Does anybody think this is a good idea and that she would thrive in that sort of habitat? I personaly think it would be better for her that way.

I dont believe in just dropping them in any random pond and letting them survive by themselves.

Take a wet warm towel and wrap your snake in it keep it tight but lit the snake crawl through it. You might have do it more than once. But check for scales each time you will see them. This will work and it is safe for the snake. Natural.

I have one that I've had for about 8-10 months, and we've tried feeding him feeder fish and right now, we're trying Reptomin floating pellets... but for some reason he doesn't seem like he's eating them, or even interested in them (either fishies or pellets). What would some of you recommend feeding him?

Just so there's no question about this, he cannot be released back into the wild because of an injury.
