I too have a beardie, named Grinch. I reluctantly inherited him 7 years ago when my son moved out and couldn't take him where he was moving to. At first I wondered what I was going to do with a "do-nothing" lizard, but in these 7 years I have come to just love him! I cannot believe how much personality he has!
His tank is right in the front window and when someone comes to the door, he actually jumps up at the window of his tank, like he's trying to guard his territory and I swear, I he could, he'd be barking just like a dog would!. There have been times when I've been sitting on the couch, upset with something, and I'll look over and he's actually at the edge of his tank where I sit with his little paws (or whatever they're called) up on the glass looking at me as if to say: "Are you okay?".
The only thing I regret is that he really doesn't like to be held. He'll sit there forever with his eyes closed and let you pet his head and stuff (he LOVES being scratched under the chin), but as soon as I go to pick him up because I think he's let his guard down...the spikes stand up.
I am amazed that he has lived this long because he actually has very poor feeding habits...I've tried everything...dark greens (all types), waxworms, mealworms, etc... The ONLY things he'll eat are steamed green beans (french style ONLY - not regular cut green beans), crickets (he'll eat a couple dozen at a time if I let him!) and maybe the occasional bit of apple. Also, he will NOT drink water out of a bowl. Every day I have to spray him down with a plant mister, and he'll lick the water that drips off his nose.
I never thought I'd hear myself say this about a lizard, but he's my little buddy.

I have four green iguanas and I just love them! I had my basement remodeled so I could have enclosures big enough for them. I have one male, Pumpkin Kahuna who is about six years old and about 52" total length. And three females. La Princess Seniorita Bonita Solita. I call her Bonita. She's about four feet. Not sure how old, I adopted her in 2002. Samantha is about four feet, but 20" of her tail had to be amputated. She's grown back at least that much. I adopted her in '02 and she was six then. And then there's Ralph. She grew up in a classroom and the kids named her Ralph before they knew she was female. The name stuck. She was about 12 years old when I adopted her three years ago. Two weeks before I adopted her, she poked her eye on a log she was basking on. Her former owner had her on a leash, and Ralph got tangled up in it. My vet said it was ruined, so it was removed. But Ralph has adapted to it and is doing very well.
I give them baths almost every day. I talk and sing to them. I make a big fresh salad every day. They are so facinating, I could spend all day with them!
