Turns out Red is a girly girl. Is there any way to preserve the egg, keep it from stinking up the house so he can keep it as one of his treasures, with the snake skins, beaver skull, bird feathers, etc..

It already has a hole in it from being reverently admired so it would have to be rinsed somehow. Right now it's in the refrigerator.

Help us out oh wise ones!

Lol.. I have no idea. That's a great story though!-- I know this sounds weird, but maybe let it dry out in the sun or something. ... Or maybe even bake it or put it in a dehydrator on a low temp. Drying things like that out seems to help keep them preserved!

If the egg already has a hole in it and there is nothing inside, dry it out well by placing it in something like salt, rice, or other drying agents for a while. If the hole is big enough, gently pour fine warmed sand or something inside it to speed drying.

If there is still stuff inside, use small scissors to make the hole bigger and let the stuff drain, then dry it.

If you want to keep it the right size and shape, gently fill it with something. I'd go with lightly thinned Elmer's glue- use a syringe-like tool to inject some, then rotate the egg to coat the inside. Let it dry, turning frequently to keep it coated inside. Repeat thin layers and drying cycles until it feels good for you. (Keeping it gentle dry heat will speed curing.)

You can try filling it solidly with fine sand (instead of the glue, or along with the glue), then patch the hole with a dab of silicone glue.
