Don't assume that just because food is missing from the dish that he/she's eaten. They will store food by burying it. Offer some fresh banana, pineapple, mango, or papaya and make suer it has plenty of water (deep enough to get into). More care info at this link:

Hermit crabs have 2 claws, the large definsive claw and the smaller feeding claw. When hermit crabs eat they may use the defensive claw to cut up their food, but it is the feeder claw that brings it to the mouth. The same is true for water.
The sponge is meant to provide humidity. It is a misconception that hermit crabs need it to drink. Water should be provided in a bowl, preferably one that all crabs can easily get out of. The sponge should be in a seperate dish and kept wet.

it may desire to be dealing with molting. that's the place they shed their pores and skin. The crabs could come out of their shells and you're able to think of they're lifeless. do no longer throw them away! they are going to consume a ton for some days, then no longer consume too a lot in any respect (from my experience with hermits) whilst they're approximately to circulate by molting.
