I have 2 turtles. Their names are Toby and Johnny (my sister named him Johnny, I told her we should have named it Dexter, but she did'nt listen!) and there's only one thing that bothers me....
I'm not totally sure if it's a boy or girl or not....
So, when they are adults, I don't want to be freaked out if I find out that they are females....so yeah. I'm changing their names. I was trying to find a name that fits both boy and girl, so I was thinking about Alex and Daryn.

But Daryn reminds me of my cousin....who passed away. :(
and Alex is this really cute guy in my class, but I don't care about him, so I'm using the name anyway. It's not like I'm naming it after him. I just like the name. So I'm definetly using Alex. I'm not sure if I'm using Daryn. But I really really like that name. Here are other names I can't use cuz of personal reasons:

Sam/Sammi
Daniel/Danielle
Or any other weird food name like, "cupcake"
I also don't want a dumb name like "speedy"
I want a real one!

Just call them Daryn and Samantha like on Bewitched! And so what if the names are not exactly unisex. Besides, I would name them Romeo and Juliet if it were me. Lol. Turtles Rock!!

I have a pet House Gecko (I am not sure if it is a male or female either) named Sam. I don't know if that is really boy and girl but it can be short for samantha or sammy?

A 'real, human name' for turtles?

I name my animals for things in their home range (our dog, Shiloh, a pair of Hingeback tortoises named for wildlife parks in their home range- Etosha and Tsavo, etc.)

Books- rabbits from Watership Down, cats, etc. from Merlin tales or Lord of the Rings (Blackberry, Fiver, Merlin, Goldberry, Tom Bombadil, Radagast, etc.) Current Redfoot tortoise is named Mylo, inspired by a name from LOTR.

Take-off of their scientific name- Red-ears are 'Trachemys scripta elegans'- (turtle with colorful throat and what looks like elegant writing on the belly)- Italics, Serif, etc.

Variation of the name in native lands- Japuta

For Red-ear sliders, I like the names of fonts, state parks in the Southeast US, variations on the word 'red', etc.
