I want to get a heater for my 30 gal long fish tank. I am planning to keep tropical fish and live plants. I just want to know which heater should I invest in? By the way I have already order the hood that will have two lights 60 watts.
The heater I am want to know is btn the regular hanging one and the submersible one....I guess I will have to get one for 150 watts but I am not sure which one is better?

I have a 35L bi-ube fish tank which has been established for 18months. It is a community tank, which is not over populated. It was absolutely fine yesterday, but over the last 12 hours or so it has been getting cloudier and the water is now very murky and grey -ish brown. My first thought was that a fish had died, but they are all accounted for. Water chemistry has been tested and is fine - no ammonia, nitrite, very small nitrate, ph 7.4. Filter has been checked and is working fine and doesnt need replaced. Also, the water smells absolutely awful, like sewage mixed with fish. :S. I have done a partial water change, but am out of ideas apart from that?!???

Okay. So I realize that Black Moor Goldfish have rather poor sight to begin with so at first, I figure it was just part of his maturing process. As they get older, they go from their bronzey-gold color to a more velvet texture. Their eyes start to telescope out, etc. Well, two of the three fancy tails that I purchased, turned out to be sick when I got them. They all came from the same tank. I've changed my water each time one died, done the proper water conditioning, let it set 24 hours, yadda yadda.

Well, my Black Moor has been developing and swimming around but his eyes have turned almost completely white. Normally, the scales form a protective layer and a lot of times, they'll have red-eye. It looks like it tried but his eyes are white. There really isn't any other way to describe it. And I'm not sure if he's eating. It's like he's trying but he can't get to the food even though I've taken the plants out of the tank.(they were fake. it's a simple 1 gallon.) Someone help?

Okay so everyone keeps telling me one fish per a gallon, does this mean I can put an oscar in a one gallon tank?!?!

He he...okay I know it's a stupid question. I just hear it so often - one fish per gallon of a water and wanted to make a small point. The rule of thumb is actually 1 inch of fish per a gallon of water and you have to take that with a grain of salt because all fish have different needs. ;) I certainly wouldn't put an Oscar in an 18 gallon tank or even a 20 (and how often do you see a 20 inch Oscar).

She got them on Sunday, and today one is dead and the other is dying. She was feeding them properly, according to the directions on the tropical fish food.

Her tank is a 1 gallon tank, which has the air bubbles thing, but no filter. The water got cloudy within a couple of days, but I didn't think it was anything to worry about. Today the water is somewhat cloudy and the second fish is laying next to the dead one, still alive, but looks like the breathing is labored. What did we do wrong? Can we do anything to save the one sick fish?

not oly do i think it will look nice but fish tend to have very good dark colors when in this type of tank. they tend to go lighter in color in a tank with white gravel. but on the other hand it will probably be hard to see debree and waste on the floor of the tank. also might be a problem if i feed them some tubifex worms. the uneaten worms will fall and burrow in the gravel and since theyre also balck i dont think ill ever find them again. so what do you aquarium owners think, black gravel?

the feeder fish are those small minnow things that they sell for food to bigger fish(in case anyone didnt know) i plan on adding one or two to my 10 gal tank. i dont want to use(kill) guppies or mollies because thats probably what the tank is going to be for anyway. so are feeder fish ok? will they eat small goldish pellets that we have? will they survive long enough? if i need smaller food ill just crush the goldfish pellets. i mean the managers of the pet store must SOMEHOW keep these fish alive right, so they must feed them. my only worry is if feeder fish are perfect, then will they eat to stay alive? or will they die after a day or two. thank you people

I have several neons, mollies and a male swordfish tail (the female having died). Until recently I also had a male Siamese Fighter which had co-existed quite happily with the others for several months. Last week I introduced 4 guppies (3 female and one male) and within hours one was dead having had its tail 'removed' and the others quickly followed together with the Siamese which had never been bothered previously. The Siamese' fins had almost completely gone. Can anyone tell me why this should happen with fish that should co-exist - who could have been the culprit etc? ( I did segregate some of the fish I thought might have been responsible but still the fins disappeared). I suspect the swordfish tailed fish but could it have been that the neons turned cannibal? I couldn't catch it happening and obviously want to avoid it happening again. It was as if pyranha fish had taken over the tank? This was far too quick for it to be fin rot.

I left 2 thick slices of cucumber in my tank last night to collect snails. I managed to collect 2. When I picked the cucumbers up, there were huge holes all over the cucumber. I have a molly, guppies, neon tetra, and swordtail. Oh, and 2 new otos. Could they be the culprit? I'm just very curious, because I might give my fishes cucumber once every week or so, and is it bad?

Im sorry my last question was not very well phrased. I have a 55 gal tank with 1 millenium 3000 filter 1 canister filter and 1 undergravel filter with a reverse flow powerhead. My question is why is my temp going up in my tank. Its at 82-83 degrees, this is up from 78-79 in the morning. This happened over a 3 hour period. I just added the powerhead today when the temp started to go up. I am unsure if this is part of the cycling process , If it was the fish in the tank (as the petstore told me to do) or if it is the filter heating the water. How can I cool it down (I can NOT afford a chiller right now) and why would it have gone up so fast. Thats what I was trying to ask before, I hope i phrased this better. Guess no sleep in 3 days will do that to you. Thank you for you advise

I have a 5 gallon half hexigon shaped acrylic tank that I plan to put a male beta in, but I would also like to add other fish in it if possible. I was thinking about getting three neon tetras. Would that work? Any reccomendation about what fish might be compatible for this size tank appreiciated. Also are there any small water plants that are easy to maintain that might do well?

I have a 20 watt hood from a freashwater 29 gallon that i want to turn into a saltwater fish tank. is that 20 watt light good enough for fish and live rock only (fowlr) ? if not what is a good website to get a good light for a "cheaper" price without bad quality? I plan to put in about 15 lbs of rock. please don't tell me that that isn't enough! i already know.
