Actually, she can. Though, it's not really a choice she has in terms of wanting to or not wanting to. If she gets stressed (for example from being moved to a new tank), a female platy can and often will reabsorb the babies and start over again, so that the babies can be born under safer conditions.

Livebearers such as platies, mollies, and guppies have the ability to store Milt (sperm). once the fish has been impregnated from a male she can hold sperm inside her so that after she gives birth she will be pregnant again. so removing the males may not do the trick. If the female gets stressed enough she may abort the pregnancy and possibly absord any milt she is holding.

one thing you can do is get a floating plant callled hornwort. the fry will swim and hide in the hornwort. this will provide cover from other fish but also allow you to pick them out and feed them to other fish in other tanks or raise them seperately. if you choose to raise them seperately at about 1.5-2 months you should be able to sex the fish and seperate them. if you do this you will end up with virgin females to stock a tank with.

Not usually. You need to make the choice for her. Remove any male platies and swordtails and keep them separate. Platies have several broods after being spermed only once, so even after several months, you can expect more babies.

Well, the problem is that those are promiscuous fish. They always want to have pre-marital sex. You should have a talk about the responsibilities of raising a brood of babies and consider birth control.
