I have 2 zebra dianos, and got them because they were only 99cents at the store. I got 2 fish books, and looked up some information, but it really didn't say anything. One of them, is very skinny, but he or she eats. The other one was bigger in the belly area when I first got them. Now it gets bigger and bigger. The other one eats, I have seen it, but she/he is always following the other one around. I did get a little info from the books, they said that males are skinny and females are more rounded. Is this a way of them mating, or is something wrong with my fish?

He's a 5 inch orange Parrot fish and is gorgeous. We are doing the water changes in between medicine treatments (the carbon is pulled out of the filter) and have raised the temp a few degrees. Anything else we should be doing? We love him and really don't want him to die. Right now he still has a strong appetite, I'm taking that as a good sign

Right. So apparently, goldfish are out of the question. :P

And so are adult male bettas, and female bettas (I heard that after they have babehs, the males have a little snack.)

So what fish CAN you put in there?

I just bought 3 goldfish the other day, all of which were fine except one which had a fish lice on it which I removed and treated. Now I'm noticing ick developing, and it might be from the change of tanks, but I'm sure it's from the stress of the parasite. I looked online and found out that the ick treatment I bought for my last goldfish only kills what's fallen to the tank, not what's on them. I don't want my fish to die again! I read about the salt treatment, where you dilute and put 3 teaspoons of salt per every gallon, and as an example they said that would be 30 tspns for 10 gallons (what I have). They say it's a treatment for goldfish but this doesn't sound right! I don't want to kill my fish by adding salt to their water, but I don't want them to die of ick either. I need confirmation that the salt treatment is safe for goldfish, that just seems like a lot of salt to put in 10 gallons!

I've had my Discus tank up and running for about 2 months now. I was told by breeders and other discus experts to do 25% weekly water changers. I have a 55 gallon tank so I am taking 10 gallons out each week.

To me this seems like quite a bit. Wouldn't it start a new cycle each time I do a water change? I have a fluval filter and 3 packages of the Biomax balls, so is this why it doesn't start a cycle each time?

I've had fishtanks for about 10 years now, but until recently, I've never did any water changes or knew much, if anything, about water cycles. Could somebody help me out on this?

Also, since the biomax balls carry all of the beneficial bacteria, wouldn't it make sense to never replace them with new ones? Fluval recommends changing it once every 3 months, staggering the replacements. Is this just a way for them to make money? I don't see why I should replace it.

Thanks for any help!

I have a 2.5 gallon tank that has a male Beta in it. It's a nice tank with some big rocks and some real grass/plants. But, it's kind of boring to just have that one fish.

Is there another fish that could live in a tank that has no air pump or filter?

I thought about goldfish, but they're dirty and spoil the water, so I don't want them.

I have a small tank, but want a bigger one, would like 3 clown loaches and 2 coreys. I know they need room to play and can grow. What else could I put in there that will not overcrowd. I have a variety of tetras now, but want something different that will be compatible with the clowns/coreys, would 4 more fish be too much?
