House flies tend to meed their doom in my fish tank and I usually scoop them out with a net, but today I found my little skirted tetra with one in his mouth. He's having trouble with it, but he's not about to let it go. Is this okay? Can my fish eat flies?

one of my guppy's scales are starting to fall off. also, she is rubbing agaisnt the tank and other rocks. i think it is ich; however, i couldn't find any of the white spots mentioned. i tried looking it up but i couldn't find any information. i already separated her. can anybody tell me if it is ich or some other diesase? also, 2 had their tails bitten. i'm not sure what to do since i can't really find any signs of fungus except for a bit of fraying. should i separate them or give them fin rot medicine? lastly, i'm not sure if red gills are good or bad. when i looked it up, the sites stated that for some fish, they are good (red meaning there is oxygen) others stated that its bad meaning there is stress or something....anyways, please help me! thanxs

I have a new 55 Gallon All-Glass aquarium. I bought it with a wooden stand and canopy.

Ok, question ... the stand is basically a cabinet. For a 55 gallon full of water, its going to be very heavy. Is it a safe design to leave the stand completely hollow? The only thing supporting the tank is around the bottom perimiter. Couldn't the bottom just collapse?

Hi,
I have a 29 gallon tank w/ 55 gallon filtration and 9 female bettas.
I just got an offer for a currently 6" common pleco. My question is could I take the pleco, or has it already outgrown a 29 gallon tank? If it hasn't, how long would it take for it to out grow the tank? I don't want to stunt his growth at all by putting him in too small of a tank.
Also, can my girls go with male guppies? I know it isn't a good idea to put male guppies with male bettas but I wasn't sure on female bettas.
Thanks!!!

I was reading that for normal changes you add back water conditioner for not only the amount you replaced but for the whole volume of the tank. I am assuming this advice is for changing water in an established tank. I am changing my water based on ammonia levels being too high. Have only had the tank up and running for about 4 days so I dont know if the water conditioner i added has worn off or not. Just wondering if i need to recondition the entire 10 gallons even though i am only putting in a fresh 2.5 gallons or is that advice for ppl doing less frequent water changes:) thanks

I currently have a tank that I have an oscar in, but he has outgrown his tank. I have purchased a new tank to transfer him into, but I do love the old tank. I think I want a few jewel cichlids. Can they live semi-harmoniously with convict cichlids?

Hi...
I have a new freshwater tank (I put it together 10 days ago) . I have a guppy and a Molly that I put in one week ago. I keep testing the water and as predicted, the amonia spiked yesterday and I read that was normal. My Molly is fine but my poor guppy is showing these symptoms:
Appetite dwindled , belly looks bigger, feces trails attached, and he swims at the top of the tank. He looks a little off balance. It's not good! Last night I changed 20 percent of the water, hoping it would help. I don't want to hurt the Molly in the process.
What can I do?!!! Thanks in advance!!!

i have a 27L tank, and 1 young kissing gourami in it with a black skirt/widow tetra and also a young black sailfin molly (or a common hybrid between a black molly and a sailfin molly)

and yes i know my kissing gourami will outgrow its tank, but i am planning to try and move it to a larger one when it becomes bigger, but for now since it is still small i am planning to keep it there.
Well for the time being is my fish tank overcrowded?

Thank u =]

Hi,

I've got a pond in my garden made from an old water tank... its quite deep and narrow, though reasonably long. It siits above ground against a wall, shaded by trees, surrounded by bricks, with potted ferns around its edge.

It contains a lily and a papyrus in pots, and some floating oxgernators, as well as a filtration pump, with the outlet at the surface to splash the wateer and oxygenate it a bit.

It is currently home to 3 goldfish, one 3 inches, one 2 1/2, and another 2 inch one that has a problem with swimming...he sits on the bottom all day.

I was wondering if there are other smallish fish we could get for other than the goldies, or if we could put newts in as well?

A toddler got into my fish tank with the net, and my fish has been floating upside-down ever since (three full days now). At first, I thought it was dying from being scared or hit with the net. Now I'm thinking it has swim bladder. The question is: Was that caused by the incident with the net, or is it just a coincidence? Would this have happened regardless?
