K...so I am running a new small tank for my bedroom (helps me sleep) It is a 5g with a biowheel filter and good lighting. I am running it as a fresh h2o and I do not want to get a heator I have 65-82f year round house temps. I was thinking one or two fish. What kind do you sugest? I work at a pet store so can get a hold of a large range of fish for good prices. I am running the tank now and have 8 small comets in it tell it is ready. Any ideas? Kind of at a loss...oh, I have a betta tank already so want to go with something else. Thanks!

I am wondering if I have made a mistake or not, or altered their true nature. I have a 20 gallon tank with 8 bettas (4 females, 4 males) and they all get along very well, even at feeding time, but there is a hierarchy. I don't know much about fish, I just enjoy how colorful this type is, and how easy they are to keep. I just maintain their water, treat it, and change their filter every 4 weeks. They have been with me for almost 6 months now, and no squabbles, except play. Are they supposed to be violent fish?

When I clean my 5000 gal. fish tank (tilapia), I replace the water with fresh city water. Introducing fresh water into my tank has high chlorine contents. I experienced fish dying from high chlorine contents...How do I immediately/simultaneously dechlorinate city water entering my fish tank...any gadget to install "in-line" in the water hose (garden hose) to feed my tank?
Open for suggestions. thanks

Still havent found any sources saying explicitly what happens to a goldfish (particularly internaly) when they get stunted. Found lots of stuff saying that they grow less but nothing documenting whether this causes them pain....good sources anyone??

It seems cruel to me. The fish can't even swim around. They take them home from the pet store and keep them in the same small bowl. Pet owners should educate their customers.

Can male and female bettas be kept in the same tank?

What size of tank does one female betta need?

I just bought a male betta for my daughter. The people at PetSmart told me that I should only feed it one or two "grains" of the betta food every two or three days, since bettas have a problem with obesity. The food itself says to feed every day. My daughter is already horribly attached to her fish, and I would hate myself if something happened to it.

Can anyone with betta experience/knowledge give me a little insight? Thank you!

What kind of fish are good with female bettas? Are African Dwarf Frogs good tank mates for them?
My original plan was to have 4 female bettas and maybe an ADF or 2 in the tank. (It's a 10 gallon.)

1. I will be gone for 10 days and I have no idea what to do? Will leaving them alone without food be ok? I really hate the idea of doing that but if I have to I can.

3. A fish sitter would probably be the best thing to do, but i'm weary of someone coming into my house without taking anything. So whats the minimum time he/she can come in without my fish starving?

3. Are there any decent operating Automatic fish Feeders that aren't too expensive?

4. Would the 3 day feeders blocks be acceptable to use?

Thank you all in advance for your help =)

i got 9 zebras in my well planted tank, i fed them regularly.
but then i noticed, one of them is sick!

usually the other healthy fish would show and move their tails and fins, but this one didnt, he folded his pectoral fins to the side of its body and fold his tailfins like when you're done using scissors (you get the picture right?).

tho it can still swim around in its regular speed, but when it stops, his head kinda floats to surface while his lower body parts move down and sometimes losing balance...

could this be swim bladder disease? or is it some other disease? it swims and eat like usual... what can i do to help the poor creature?
pls help thanks!

For the past week they have lived happily together! swimming side by side and sort of resting heads on each other (the Guy at the pet shop said they get along great?)
I came down this morning to whitness the female (drab small fins) biting chunks off the males beautiful crown tail and EATNG it!?! - poor boy - he looks a right ragged mess!

I have taken him out of the tank and put him in a tiny tank I used to use for the childrens seamonkeys (about 1 L) which isn't very big - but will do him untill I can re-home her ladyship!!

I just wondered why after a week (I am new to Betta keeping, as in this week!!) she has decided he is Breakfast?
many thanks

I had two percula clownfish for a year and a half. They died suddenly a few weeks ago. I noticed the smaller fish one morning swimming rapidly sideways with a whitish face and he died minutes later. I tried to feed him before he died but he wouldn't eat. He was heading towards the filter so I shut it off so he wouldn't be sucked up. After he died, I promptly removed the dead fish and the other one seemed fine. I was very distraught over the fish dying, so I forgot to turn the filter back on. The next morning, the other fish still seemed ok so I turned the filter back on. He immediately began acting as the other fish had before he died, and was also soon dead within minutes. What could have caused this? I'm confused because I had them for quite a while with no problems whatsoever, they seemed to be very happy and active when they were alive. I want to know because I'm thinking of replacing them but am hesitant to because I'm not sure what went wrong.
