Still havent found any sources saying explicitly what happens to a goldfish (particularly internaly) when they get stunted. Found lots of stuff saying that they grow less but nothing documenting whether this causes them pain....good sources anyone??

After reading your question i went on a hunt to find out about stunting growth and what i found was that they still grow but just at a slower rate. The thing about the oprgans out growing the bodies isnt exactly on target but the organs do get affected by the slowed growth rate. What happens is the spine begins to contort and in effect pinching some vital organs causeing them to have difficult time breathing, feeding and swimming and eventually this will lead to death. A healthy goldfish in a properly housed system can live up to 20-30 years or possibly even more. More importantly for now is the fact that even small goldfish half an inch long still needs a larger tank not even due to stunting but because of such high waste this fish can expell. more water means more dilution of the waste they produce. So the real urgent reason to move the fish is because it will slowly sufficate in its own waste. Hope this helps and I will try to locate some links for you that are credible but, I would reccomend books over internet websites for as you realized from one of your other posts about people giving faulty info on this site. it just goes to show there is a lot of faulty info on other websites as well.

Hello again Kii, your Mum is a stubborn person! I don't know of any definitive documented evidence although I'm certain if he sees this Magic Man can find you a couple of scientific studies.

All she has to do is imagine herself in a closet where she couldn't even stand up for the rest of her life & imagine how it would stunt not only her physical but mental development as well. I believe you said your Mum had previously worked with animals which if correct makes her attitude even more unbelievable. If she considers fish less than other beings then she has no business keeping them in the first place so you should 'kidnap' this little one & give him a proper home!.

So until she gets conclusive proof the poor fish is condemned to a life of suffering? People though the world was flat for thousands of years because there was no conclusive evidence otherwise.

they will grow less like you know,

basically the way i was taught from FP.com was that the internal organs still grow but te body doesnt.

Thats why the fish has a shorten life span.

Frankly they will feel pain as they are basically destorying themselves inside out.

I doubt it's possible to scientifically prove that they suffer pain. But stunting makes them unhealthy, and unhealthy fish must suffer. Why would you want to even consider it?
