Plecos tend to be a bit lazy. The only reason you would ever need to clean the sides of your tank is if you don't like the look of the algae. The fish don't care about the algae, but it can be unsightly. You will still get algae on the side of your tank if that is what you are asking, and you still need to vacuum the gravel because Plecos are very messy and create a lot of waste.

If you want clean glass, then yes you will need to clean it. Most algae eaters only eat certain types of algae, and generally prefer fish food over algae too. You don't need to clean your glass, leaving it dirty and covered in algae does no harm other than looking bad. I usually only clean the front glass and leave the slimy goodness on the sides and back for the snails, shrimp, and otocinclus to eat.

Yes you still have to clean the sides of your tank. The plecos might not clean the sides of your tank. They are nocturnal, so you won't see them in the daytime.

It depends on how clean you want your tank and glass to be. I prefer to clean my glass when i do my water chances. There is still enough algae in tank for them to eat.

Probably not... let them do their work. Otherwise you'll have to feed them algae wafers. Good luck!
