Today I just purchased a goldfish, and it's already gone belly up on me.

It looked like a healthy fish when I bought him, but it was an hour-long trip back home before I could put him in the 20 gallon tank and I imagine he was stressed from the journey. The water is clean as I just changed it this morning, so it can't be that. The filter was primed and a new cartridge put in a good 5-6 hours before the goldfish came home.

Do you think it's the stress that made him go belly up?

Anything I can do that might help him live?

Where exactly can i find cory cats and how much do they cost? i don't want any forwards to any sites that don't tell you exactly to the dollar how much they are, or any place that sells them like in groups or places where i would have to have them shipped. i want exact prices. i live in gilbert, arizona. would they sell them at petsmart or petco or someplace like that? please help!!!!!

What kind of live food is safe to feed Pacus and Cichlids? The fish in question are only about 3 inches right now and i was wondering what kind of live foods and how much live food and how many times a day i can safely feed them please help and thanks in advance.

What fish can i keep in a ten gallon tank and how many can i keep i don't want any more brakish water fish. i had four guppies and they all died. i am looking at tetras or goldfish or gouramis or something like that. would a plecostomus be okay with fish like that also? i want as many fish as i can but i don't want to overcrowd the tank. and, is it true that the fish that you keep only grow as big as their tank lets them? does it affect them at all, like make them die faster?

I have 2 Red Bellied Pacus and four assorted Cichlids in a 14 gallon tank and i was wondering how big and how fast they will grow in such a small tank? Also i feed them tropical fish flakes and at present none of them are over 3 inches long. Thank you for any advice or guesses!

they are the same colouring as the mum, silver/grey with a blue tail. the male died after the 1st lot but i think he was blue too. they all appear to have a gravid spot, don't they need to be pregnant to show this ?

I have a ten gallon tank with 2 angelfish, 3 tetras, 1 molly, and 1 pleco (Don't question the fish that i have in my tank at the moment please, as i am keeping a couple in my tank for a friend). Yesterday I looked at my tank and everything was normal. I fed my fish this morning, went to work, and now i just got home and i discovered brown algae on everything in the tank, and not just the walls. Even all of my ornaments are brown. What happened? Help!

PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY:
I've had a female guppy for over a month now, and she's SUPER pregnant. She's been pregnant for over 2 months now, and I'm getting worried. Today, I got an algae eater, and I gave him an algae disc. Instead of HIM eating it, my guppies went CRAZY over it!!! After that female guppy finished eating, she was 2 TIMES HER NORMAL PREGNANT SIZE! I think she's bloated, but how come the rest of my pregnant guppies didn't get bloated? Is she going to be all right? Someone PLEASE help!

What does it look like when goldfish breed. I have 2 goldfish and they are acting a little oddly. I dont know how to sex fish so i can tell if one is a female and the other is a male. They are constantly swimming and brushing against each others stomaches and following closley behind the other fish near the rear. I just want to know if they will reproduce so i can prepair. I hope for babies. Wish me luck. And if anyone knows anything about taking care of baby goldfish i would like if u post it here.

I bought a cheap thermometer for my 10-gallon fish tank. When opening it, I accidently broke a small piece of glass off the top. (The top of it is open) if I place it a little above water so no water can get into the hole, will it still work?

Okay, I was thinking a 30 or 55 Gallon tank...what do you think? I have 14 guppy fry (11:1 1/2 months old and 3:3 months), 5 assorted tetras, 6 platy, 1 pleco, 2 female betta, and 2 african dwarf frogs. I know they can all go together because, I have my female bettas with my tetras, and frogs...and I previously had the guppies and platies with the bettas too...I just wanted some input to see what others thought. Ohh and one of my tanks got snails from the live plants I bought!!!! How do I get rid of them without hurting my fish????

My aquarium light blew a fuse. It was a FS-U fuse/starter. Petco only has FS-20 & FS-40 fuses/starters. My light is 20 watts. Can i use an FS-20 instead of an FS-U? Thanks!

i went to home depot the other i was thinking hmm...my cichlids would really like sand instead of gravel..they are saling a 50 pound for $4.00..
heres what i nned to know?
1.should i get it
2.how do i wash it
3.how should i add it
4.does it affect the water in anyway
5.could i add it while having fish in the tank?

so i got 4 little platy for my new tank. Im a begginer but followed al the rules. 2 of the 4 fish i got have died on the first day. A hoping it was shock and nothing els. When i first put the fish in they all had a kind of light white stingy fluff wen u look realy close. Could it be fungi?

Ok i have 2 algae eaters (one very young) 1 mollie, 1 shark, and few others but the only fish i have 2 of the same ones is large fantail goldfish.........I think they made babies......I just found them today in my tank there everywhere thousands of them Im not sure if I need to remove the rest of the fish from the tank or will some survive with all the other fish in there?

I have had cichlids for a long time but have never used salt in my tank. My fish breed and seem to do just great nut I was wondering if the salt increases their life span or intensifies their colors? I have recently purchased dainichi cichlid food and it really has brought out more color in my fish. I just wanted to know if the salt might increase color too and why?
PS I have a my aquarium is between 220 and 240 (yes thats right, it is very large lol) gallons how much salt would that use and what would the approximate cost be per month?

You know that stuff thats used to make tap water safe I think its called AquaSafe or some thing like that any ways it says to add one teaspoon for every 10 gallons. So how much do I put in with a 2.5 gallon fish tank? and how many guppies am I allowed to have?

I just bought a betta fish yesterday, and put him in a clean tank, with clean water that sat out a whole day, and was treated with "Betta water conditioner". But once I took him out of that little cup and put him in the tank i noticed a difference. He has to struggle to swim to the bottom. He stays at the top. Sometime when i go over to watch him, he freaks out and floats on his side. He almost floats on top of the water. All of his fins stop moving, so i think that he's dead. Then i realize that his gills are still moving and I tap the tank and he swims around a bit more.
I've had two betta fish before this one and neither has behaved this strangely. Any idea whats wrong?
