Okay, I was thinking a 30 or 55 Gallon tank...what do you think? I have 14 guppy fry (11:1 1/2 months old and 3:3 months), 5 assorted tetras, 6 platy, 1 pleco, 2 female betta, and 2 african dwarf frogs. I know they can all go together because, I have my female bettas with my tetras, and frogs...and I previously had the guppies and platies with the bettas too...I just wanted some input to see what others thought. Ohh and one of my tanks got snails from the live plants I bought!!!! How do I get rid of them without hurting my fish????
Thanks for any info!!

I'd say a 55 gallon tank since the pleco will grow up to 2 feet. Even with a 55 gallon, you'd be overstocked just because of your pleco. But without the pleco, it sounds like a perfect community tank. To get rid of your snails, here's what I'd do. Weigh down a piece of lettuce (somehow), and after a couple hours, snails will be munching on it. Flush it down the toilet and repeat if there's any more snails.

I'd go with the 55. 55 gallon tanks are quite possibly the perfect tanks. Because they are mass produced in the U.S. (assuming you are in the U.S, otherwise the story might be slightly different) they are almost always the most bang for the buck. Their larger size also makes them easier to maintain. Water changes happen slower than they do in smaller tanks. Generally bigger is better if you have the space. While the number and type of fish you have might be OK in the smaller tank, if there is any chance of you adding more fish down the road, you will probably regret the smaller tank choice. Check out this article. I really speaks to your question very well.

Get a 55 gallon for sure. Believe me you will want some snails in your tank. They do a great job keeping the substrate clean. They multiply like crazy, but if you crush them when they are babies and are on the glass, it makes a source of calcium that the fish need. I think the more room for your fish the better. Some fish get stressed, and are more prone to disease if they are in close quarters. I've noticed that my smaller fish get stressed more, so with a large tank, they have a lot of places to go. Good luck

I would go with the 55 gallon tank, because I'm sure you will have more fry
As for the snails, here is a great site, and the vegetable bait works out of experience

Hope that helps
Good luck

The 55 gallon, The pleco will grow quite large and the bigger the aquarium the better, (Especially with guppies as the breed like rabbts). And heres a link you can listen to about getting rid of small snails http://www.petfishtalk.com/shows_special/small_snails/small_snails.htm

I'd go for the 55 gallon. Even if they would do good in the 30 (I don't know if they would or not) it could never hurt them to have an extra 15 gallons.

to get rid of snails some people say to put a jar in the bottom of your tank with a bit of lettuce in it then every day take it out and remove any snails that are in it or you can just pick them off the glass as for what size tank bigger is always better they seem to be easier to maintain your water perameters and it gives your fish more room to grow in

If you can afford the 55, then most definitely go with that one.
