Yes your right you DO NEED to do a water change, How to do a water change is buy a gravel syhpon and a bucket, The syphon will come with instructions on how to work it. some start diffrent ways, With mine you just squeeze it a few times, Then the water will flow from the tank to the bucket, Put the syphon end in the gravel and you will see all the derbis going up, Go over all the gravel untill you have taken 20% of the water out, Put the water down the toiet or outside, Then you have to top up the tank with new water, Fill a bucket of water up (you have to get it to the same temp as the tank) and add some aqua safe, to take out the chloride, Depending on the fish you have you may want to check the ph of the tap water and if it is too high/low you have to adjust it. Then add the water slowly to the tank.

Congradulations on your new tank! Go to your local fish store and ask for a syphon. A syphon is a long clear hose that you use to pull water out of the tank and into a bucket that you can then dump outside. When you change out the water, it's important to get the hose down in the gravel to suck up the fish poo.

When you replace the water in your tank, remember to use a water conditioner.

you need to get a siphon ment for taking water out of fish tanks and take your water out. you don't need to take fish out this way. just put the other end in a bucket, you can put the water you take out on flowers or your yard. then just fill the bucket up with your water and a water conditioner or stress coat added.
