I have a salt water tank and i admit i am a noob at this. I have a couple of questions to ask. One is should i keep sea slugs in my tank? Another is my hermit crabs attacked my scooter blenny, then the algae went wacked up... How do i keep the balance right? Lastly, are corals OK for beginners?

I purchased one without researching them about 6 years ago at least and the little guy has grown from a half inch to about 3 inches. Anyone have one or have any experience with them??? Curious as to their lifespan, tankmates, and general info. Internet has been kind of cloudy and I am reading tons of different things. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I have a betta that I have had for approximently 8 months. In my spare time I try to figure out ways to teach it the following tricks.

The loop where it swims in a loop
The dolphin jump
and The switch where there are two tanks tanks next to each other and the fish jumps back and forth from each one.
Please tell me how to teach my fish with out scaring or frustrating it.

I have had a Betta Fish for a little under a month, and he's living in a 1 gallon tank (please don't tell me I need a bigger tank, he has a good life in there already with some plants, gravel and castle and it all gets washed out weekly) I live in New York and right now obviously it's summer, so I'm not worrying about my little Betta, but at night we do put on the A/C and he's doing fine, but it can get a little cold in the living room (where he is currently living) also Winter is gonna come around soon, and the Winters here are very cold, but we do put on the heater(for the house), but should I really get a heater for my Betta? If so, is it cheap? The tank is only a 1 gallon. Do I get a 7.5 watt? Please help!

Hi,
I have a female betta I got yesterday at Petco. Well after I looked at her closer from a birds eye view I realized that her scales had a very very very very very slight rise to them. So my question is currently she is in a 1 gallon tank with Jungle Brand Fungus Cure Meds and 1/5 tablespoon of aquarium salt, is that a good treatment or should I buy the more expensive meds like Maracyn? If so, what Maracyn?
Thanks!

Can anyone tell me why my goldfish has changed from golden to white/pearly colour. Introduced a filter machine and was wondering if it might be shock or stress. Other fish seem to be ok. Moved them into a bigger bowl (only 2 of them in a 30litre tank now.)

I'm planning on breeding Bettas and was just wondering how the sex of the fry is determined. Someone told me you'll get more males if they are in higher temperatures. While another person told me that low PH gives you more females then males.

And Yes, I know about breeding them and how pricey it can be and also the consequinces of having fish along with how to tell a male and female fish apart when they're full grown. i have fish coming in from Thailand this week from a good breeder there so don't even bother trying to tell me to look into it more.

Hi,

Many people would consider Killifish and Rainbow fish as oddballs? I used to disagree, but I've ran into too many people who think so. Here was my first thought about "qualifications" to oddballs: fish that are reclusive from other families or fish so cannot be sorted into any of the categories (such as characins, cyprinids, etc); miscellaneous/extra/others fish. Eeels and Puffers are completely different fish but are both considered an oddball. Would killifish, rainbow, pleco, gars, pencilfish, etc. be considered oddballs?

What is your idea about oddball qualifications?

I have asked this question before; but people don't seems to get what I mean so I'll try to ask it differently. In a fish aquarium isn't the water quality all about nitrate; ammonia; pH levels etc? Hypothetically even if there is a lot of waste but all levels are fine aren't the fish fine? Isn't it all about levels?

I have had my Koi pond now for 4yrs and I have never had this happen before.
I cleaned out the pond last week because I had a horrible algae problem and had used a cheap brand UV light.
I had always used Turbo Twist UV light, but it broke last year.

After cleaning the pond and removing all algae, I put a brand new Turbo Twist in. Mind you, I had this brand for three years, and never had this happen.
Now, my water has turned cloudy, within two days, and slimy suldge is on the filter and hoses and has clogged my pump.
The color is not green. More of a greyish brown.
I am wondering if it is from the chemicals to remove the chlorine, such as Start Right.
Will the UV light kill this in time?
I have removed the fountain attachment and let the water flow fully through the UV light, in return to the spitter to the pond.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
