i have had a fish tank for the last 8 months and not until a couple months ago did it start to grow alot of algae. I'm not doing anything different than I was before. So i bought an algae eater and it died after like 2 days.

pleccos cant survive off of the algae your tank produces alone. you should have gotten veggie tablets to help feed the plecco. these should be given everyday.

plecos are extremly sensitive, and if the water parameters are not correct they will die
check your ammonia, it's level is suppose to be at "0"
if not do a partial waterchange of 50% with a gravel siphon right away, and keep up with doing partial waterchanges of 25% every 3 days until your ammonia is at "0"

After that you're suppose to keep up with weekly 25% partial waterchanges

hope that helps
Good luck
