I have a saltwater tank with live rock a hermit crab and a choc. chip star, I recently noticed tiny what looks to be star fish on the fake plant leaves. I just wondered if anyone knew where they may have came from the look like what I believe is called brail star fish... They are so small and light that the current from the filter will blow them away and kill them... I have noticed from what i have seen so far about 6-8 of them but some have dies from the current.. Also I have noticed tiny what looks to be shrimp or bugs that look to be eating the shedding from my crab is this cause we have not had fish in the tank in so long?

A few weeks ago, I had my first batch of mystery snail babies. The two parents are sort of a gold/brown mix, and they produced about 11 babies that survived (some may have become food for my african frog). Anyway, the babies are getting pretty big now. They are about the size of a pencil-top eraser (or bigger). Two of them are completely white (somewhat transparent) and one is completely gold. The rest, all equal in size or smaller than the pure white and gold babies, all look to be a brown & gold mix, like the parents. Can I expect them to stay this color as they mature? Are they considered albinos? Is there an increased interest in albino mystery snails? And, if so, what can I expect if I keep the baby albinos and continue to breed them? My current plans were to trade the babies to pet stores for fish food, carbon, etc. Will the color anomolies increase the "tradeability"?

All of my fish are infected with Ich & i plan on picking up the medicine tommorrow at the pet store. For now i put them in a salt bath but they don't seem to be doing too well.

I think the sales clerk lied to me! I just bought a "blood parrot" from petsmart. But this fish is ALL black. She said that it would turn red as it gets bigger. I've seen a lot of baby blood parrots and none of them were black. Some had black spots but none were all black.

I just want to find some information about this fish. Anyone have any idea what it could be? It looks like a parrot fish, about 3 inches long, and is all black.

Thanks for your help!

Hi, I have a 10 gallon tank and a 5 gallon tank. i use the 5 gallon when one of my fish is about to lay eggs. my cherry barb just layed some eggs in the 5 gallon and I put the male and the female together but the male keeps chasing the female ( the female layed a lot of eggs and i think she's done). Do I need to get them both back into the 10 gallon tank and separate them from the eggs? thx.

iv had my 35 liter tank for about 6 days now and my fish for about 4 days, and recently most of the fish have died, i asked the pet store why this had happend and they had told me that it was because ammonia levels being to high, the rest of the fish are barely living, i know alot about tropical and cold water fish because iv read alot about them but i dont know that much about ammonia, by the way i think my tank is still in its cycle process. if you know any thing that might help, could you please tell me in full detail and how i can prevent this in the future.

The do it when there isn't food (so while that is a contibutor, it isn't WHY)
Some females do it when they're spawning, but males do it too.
Sometimes the oxygen in the water is low, but they do it even when the oxygen is fine.
Fish do it even in completly still tanks.
All species of fish do this.

Can anyone identify these freshwater snails? They were found in the South Fork River in western North Carolina, at a quiet spot in the river. They were entirely black with no markings (see photo linked below), and about a quarter inch to an inch long. I'd love a species name and maybe some info about them. Thanks!
