i have been testing my tank every couple of days for ammonia nitrite and nitrate the amonia and nitrite are fine but the nitrate is off the scales test kit at 100mg/1.i am using interpet easy test kit for nitrate its in tablet form and i am following the instructions right,
i decided to test the tap water today with the kit as well and i was surprised at the reading for nitrate in the tap its 50mg/1 which is a orange red colour.
if my tap water is 50mg/1 and my tank water is 100mg/1 how do i reduce the readings for my tank,at first i thought it was my tank until i tested the tap water.
i have done plenty of water changes to try to rectify this but now feel im making the problem worse,by adding the tap water,
i am adding aqua safe which makes tap water safe made by tetra aqua
can some one please help as im lost what to do.

I have a 30 gallon tank with fish in it. When we first set up the tank the levels tested at 6.8 and now for the last week they have tested at 7.6 and several fish have died. I put the stuff in there that is supposed to clear and clean up the chlorine and chloramine. But it does not seem to be working. On the bottle is says it starts working immediately. Ya right the levels are still the same. What can I do to correct the problem?

Our newly purchased lyretail molly unexpectedly gave birth to about 20 fry a little over a month ago. She has a beautiful lyretail, but the fry all have normal-shaped molly tails. Since the mother got amorous in a pet store tank containing a mixture of lyretail and non-lyretail, I suppose it's possible that none of these will turn out with lyretails.

My question is: How long do I have to wait to be sure? We can't keep all 20 fry, and I have some homes lined up for many of them, but we'd like the two or three we keep to be lyretails as well. Does the lyretail develop later, or are the fry old enough to tell now?

I just purchased 2 King Cobra, 1 Brilliant German and 1 Mandarin Orange. They arrived yesterday and they're all orange right now, with some distinguishing features. I can tell the Cobras by their vertical stripes and the Brilliant German has a silvery-purple around the edges with vertical and horizontal stripes. But, how old are they when they usually develop their FULL color?

Thank you!! :)

I have:
-2 cory cats
-2 dwarf gourami
-3 male guppies
-3 female guppies
-6 amano shrimp
-6 ghost shrimp
-3 african dwarf frogs

im not concerned with the size of my tank. i just want to make sure all my fish are compatable with eachother. ive had bad experiences with my guppies as two of them were killed by killifish and silver mollies. ive removed the killifish and silver mollies, and i just want to make sure all the inhabitants of my aquarium are safe. i know guppies are vulnerable. do you think the anyone in the tank is a threat? please explain any concerns.

About 2 days ago we noticed that a few of our fish had come down with white spot (Ich), and we immediatley took steps to treat it (according to info given by our local aquarium place).

This morning we found our 10-year-old Synodontis upside-down in the tank, breathing normally and happily eating food. He seems to be fine swimming, it's just that when he stops he floats belly-up again.

Do you think he will go soon, or do you think that there is any chance or recovery? If so, are there any steps we should be taking to help? I hear that they are very hardy but I'm not sure how he'll go with this one...

It's such a shame because we've had him for so long, so serious answers will be very much appreciated. Thanks!

recently added 5 corydora, 1 of which did not make it past the third day. 1 other is not doing so well either. I have a 55 gal tank and have been changing 10gal every 4 - 5 days. There is one other corydora, an older one which does not seem to be concerned with the younger ones. I also have 3 small tetras. The one corydora appeared to not care about food and would hide alot more than the others. His barbells seem to be injured.

PH level is around 8
Nitrites are nearly 0.5
Nitrates are nearly 0
Ammonia is 0

I am concerned and want to know if placing the cory in a small 2 gallon hospital tank would help. He is not eating

I have a 20 gallon tank and a week or 2 ago the water got really cloudy even though i had been doing somewhat regular water changes and i have an under gravel filter. I bought some new fish and all of a sudden everything but all the the plants i just bought died. The water is still cloudy even though i have been doing water changes for the last few days and there are no fish. All the levels of everything is normal except for the pH which is very basic. My 2 questions are how do i clear up the water and how do i keep my water pH neutral and stable even though the water here is basic?

My cousin has a 2.5 gallon tank with two adult size goldfish in it. She used to have a betta, that's how she got the tank, but the betta died so she got two adult goldfish. I think they are lionheads. I told her the tank is too small but she just won't listen until she has proof. Can anyone back me up here?? That would be very much appreciated!! She is actually next to me right now.
