Hi all, I have a 10 gallon fish tank, and I want to start a new combo involving a Betta, tetras, and at least 3 small algae eaters. Is there anything that would fit this description?

You bet! Most any tetra too small to bother the betta will work. I would suggest a few neons and a few of another tetra, such as lemon tetras, black neons, emperor tetras, things of that size.

The only "algae eater" that will work in a tank that size and with this combo of fish are oto cats. All others simply get too large.

Here is a combo for you. I have worked with this combination before:

1 Male Betta
3 Female Bettas
6 Tetras (Your Choice)
2 Mystery Snails

You can keep up to 12 fish in a 10-gallon tank.

That sounds fine to me. Get a centerpiece fish like Betta or even Dwarf Gourami if you want some color and you can also add in some neon tetras for color and midwater shoaling. Then you could probably get something for the bottom of the tank.

i just gave this link to someone but it might help you too!

Good luck

(btw forget the one inch per gallon rule. It's inaccurate and will cause a lot of problems)

a betta, 6 or 7 small tetras (i prefer rasboras but your call), and some otos would make a great 10 gallon tank.

why algae eatters for that tank, the only thing that would be good is a dwarf oto catfish. They like to school so 3 isnt enough.

But again, 10 gallons isnt alot of room, so tetras will certainly limit you along with the otos plus a betta on the side.

The problem is too many species of schoolers for only a 10 gallon.

Try looking into a betta as the center pieces, along with live plants etc...

And try looking into a small school of WCM(white cloud minnows) and maybe just maybe 3 small cory catfish.

That is really pushing the bio-load, but it can be done.

Live plants are must for this set-up, along with a filter(regaurdless of the fact that bettas dont like current) The plants will help stabolize the water parameters.
