can they live in freshwater?

I have a tank with a Marble Veil Tail Angelfish, two platies, an algae eater and two Blue Gouramis. Very recently, I noticed that one of the gouramis was bullying the other, forcing the smaller to the bottom of the tank at feedings, not allowing it into the main tank area, forcing it to stay beneath plants, etc. This seems to be brand new behavior to me, though I also noticed today that the bully gourami is now almost twice the size of the victim - they were bought at the same time. All the fish are fed flake food 3-4 times daily in small increments, then an algae tablet at night, occasional brine for a treat, so I don't think it's a problem of underfeeding, plus all the other fish are healthy. The only bullying behavior seems to be occuring between these two. Is this normal? And what can I do?

Every single time I turn on the flourescent lightbulb my fish hide under the pump! It's crazy. Am I stressing them out? I always just turn it off immediately because I'm afraid of hurting their eyes or something. If I left it on do you think they'd come out of hiding?

Is it bad for them to hide under the pump?

They're just goldfish in a 5 gal tank.

Ugghhhh... I'm so worried about Bob and Barney! :(

I recently bought a beta. He seemed very happy even making a bubble nest. I hear they do that when they are happy. Then two days ago he stopped eating but continued to blow the bubbles. I noticed his water becoming cloudy so I decided to change it. As soon as I put him back in the tank he went nuts. Then I noticed that he couldn't swin down. It was like something was making him float. He was fighting it something crazy. I didn't know what to do. Then minutes later he was dead. It was that quick. I don't understand. I used bottled water and let it get room temp. What did I do wrong? Was it the water? I did the same thing after I got him home and he was fine, I thought. Can anyone shed some light?

I just bought a new high-tech fish tank for my betta. Its got a gravel filter and a light, its a really nice tank. Hes never had any problems and Ive had him for about 10 months. Hes been happier in his new tank. He swims around more instead of sitting at the bottom of the tank and he looks healthier. But I just went to sit on the couch (my fish is right next to the couch) and I was watching him and I noticed he had white dots on his eyes! First thing that comes to my mind is cataracts...

heres what they look like (they are on both eyes):
Completely symettrical white dots. Everything else on his eye is fine. His eyes arent bulging out and he doesnt seem to be blind (I did the mirror to him and he reacted). He doesnt seem to be sick at all. He seems fine other than the dots...

SOMEONE HELP, I love me little betta.

i looked at some of the other questions on this and nothing seem to fit so...
yesterday i noticed my two goldfish have black bloches on their tails and bodies. just a few each. but its not like the black ich, i know what ick looks like.
the day before yesterday i shortened the bubble tube because it seemed not to be putting a lot of air into the water, poor circulation.
i also keep them in light, but not direct sunlight.
any ideas. did i do bad on the cutting of the air tube, should they be less out of the light? maybe just a different tank, i always thought this one seemed small.
i spend $5 at the fair to win them, id like to see them live a good life.

I had a sick guppy but it was by no means dying--it just had a swim bladder problem and was swimming sideways but was quite lively. I read on the internet last night that guppies like a bit of salt in water I was very surprised sinceI had never heard this b4. So I added some salt to the water once Id isolated it and it dies within a few minutes. Was it the salt or could it have been the swim bladder problem? had anyone else ever heard of guppies liking salt water?

Well, my fintail goldfish keeps on rising to the surface and every time he tries to swim down, he keeps rising up. He is still very small and is in a 5 gallon tank with 3 other small fintail goldfishes. Does anyone know what's wrong with him? I got him about a week and a half ago.

I've heard some people say red parrot chiclids are dyed by the breeders. Is that true? I always thought their bright red color was natural.

My son wanted a pirrahna, he's had it for a couple years now. It does nothing but sit there and eat goldfish every once in a while. I hate to feed it feeder fish as well, what is a humane way to get rid of it? I tried the pet stores they won't take it either.

What kind of a bird is small and grayish in color . Almost a neon yellow center / sides. It was found dead , upside down on a patio. Seems like a strange way for a bird to die ?

A few weeks ago I purchased an aquarium plant and when I lifted it from the bag of water to place it in the aquarium I found an itty bitty little pleco in the bottom. He obviously hitched a ride so I added him to my aquarium as well. I didn't know how I felt about him, but I have to say that now I think he is the coolest fish in the aquarium. He has grown so much in the past few weeks. He has big fat lips and his tail and fins are spotted like a leapard. He's just beautiful. I would hate to lose him most of all. Do you have any idea what kind of pleco I have? How do you feel about your plecos? Do you love them like I do?
