I really want one but I don't want to change my tank to only brackish water fish.

Green spotted puffers grow to 6", after they reach 2" they really need brackish water and then salt water when they are adults, if they don't get it they will develop really thick slime causing them to suffocate.

They can live in freshwater but not for long. They need the brackish water to remain fully healthy. You might have some luck if they are kept extremely healthy, but they will die sooner than if they were kept in brackish. Personally i wouldn't buy one unless you make the switch.

if you want freshwater puffers, go with the dwarf puffers, they're freshwater only and not brackish
