i looked at some of the other questions on this and nothing seem to fit so...
yesterday i noticed my two goldfish have black bloches on their tails and bodies. just a few each. but its not like the black ich, i know what ick looks like.
the day before yesterday i shortened the bubble tube because it seemed not to be putting a lot of air into the water, poor circulation.
i also keep them in light, but not direct sunlight.
any ideas. did i do bad on the cutting of the air tube, should they be less out of the light? maybe just a different tank, i always thought this one seemed small.
i spend $5 at the fair to win them, id like to see them live a good life.

it could be ammonia burns have you checked your levels in your tank you need to check for the ammonia and nitrite level with a test kit,if high do a 50 percent water change and go to your aquatic shop and get a conditioner for your tanks water

Hi Jenn-I think Ice Queen is correct, ammonia burns sounds exactly like what you are describing due to poor water conditions & the fact that you can see them means the healing process has already begun so you simply need to keep your parameters spot-on & do regular partial water changes to aid the healing process.

I'm not certain what you mean about altering the bubble tube but I suspect you have a very small tank as bubble tubes are often built in to these. A great idea would be to get them a 20 gallon, lidded tank with a suitable filter & they will be well on their way to living a good life-it's nice that you care & the fish will thank you too! fish from the fair do not tend to live long at all. i had a fish from the fair and he also had black splotches, it soon spread to cover almost his whole body. but it went away after a while, some gold fish turn diffrent colors, not sure why but they do. i had a black ornade and he started turning orange 0_o so i don't think you have to worry to much, just keep up on the water changes and don't over feed. hope this helps :) good luck!

My goldfish has them on her fins, the fish is rubbing up against the filter (hoping your filter is black). I wouldn't worry. She's going to be 5 in January. Just keep a close eye on your fish and feed it Tetra Fin goldfish flakes, or rounds. They enhance the color, and the black slowly dissapears (at least it did on my fish). Wish you the best of luck......:)
