Not feeding the fish for one day won't cause it to float upside down. Changing the water (you should only change about 1/2 unless you know there is a problem here) was a good step, as long as the temperature was about the same and you added conditioner.

Is the breathing regular, or does it seem to be having a problem and is breathing too fast or slow?

Any information you can add will help us to figure out what may have happened. Is this a new tank? How larger is it? What kind of fish? Do you have a filter in the tank? When was the last water change?

If the tank is new, and it's been a while since a water change was done, you may have had a buildup of ammonia or nitrite in the tank since the tank would still be cycling. Had your fish been swimming near the top and act as though it was gasping for air? Has it had a normal appetite prior to today?

If you could, please add some more info using the pencil icon below your question to "add details".

Depends on what fish your keeping, if its gold fish. Then its quite normal as everytime after its been overfed it will develope swimming bladder problem but if your talking about other fish and its struggling then I have to say that the chances of survival is very slim at this stage.. Prepare for the worst..

Try not to do too much water change as it actually stress the fish even more..

It has a swim bladder problem I had the same problem today and my fish has just died!!!! It is not always life threatening but try looking up on the internet for "swim bladder problems" Not much is known about them though sometimes they get better on their own there isnt really any remedy you can buy I think but try looking it up on the internet anyway

swim bladders help fish to keep their balance when swimming and not float to the top all the time
