When I got my betta he was solid blue and there were no signs of red on him. I have kept him in the same spot with no new lighting but now his whole body is turning a dark red. I know that when they sleep or get sick there colors pail but it isn't like that. Any help?

That is the red wash coming through the blue. It happens as fish age. When trying to breed for blue, you want to try and get as much of that red out as you can, but as they age sometimes they get a "red wash".

I have two male bettas who have shared the same tank for over two weeks, and haven't changed color or shown signs of stress. Hmmm, are they looking like they have a dull color? Try switching the food, give them some brine shrimp, or blood worms. Or try the Betta Min by Tetra. And if that doesn't help, I'd definitely separate them.

They normally get a lot brighter and develop more intense colors once you get them home. Most fish do in fact. They reflect their stress level and quality of water in their coloration. Once they are in a healthy, stable environment they start looking a lot better and colors that were dull or washed out in the store will start to re-appear.

Fish food normally has a lot of red shell fish, so they tend to bring out oranges, pinks and reds. >>Just like Flamingos.

Hope that helps
Good luck

color change is common, and can certainly come in age.

While it tends to be alot more common in whitish bettas, esp. marbles.

Blue and red are dominate colors in bettas, but it is possible to get mutli colored bettas. Its usually called washed. for ex. a red betta can have alot of blue wash on the anal fin.

Again it is common, and nothing to really worry about.
