he's unhappy in your bowl
how about giving him at least a 2.5 gallon tank with heater and filter, and a live plant?
That way you can cut down on cleanings, because you only need to do partial waterchanges of 25% weekly with a small gravelsiphon and you will know that he has enough oxygen at all times
Feed him twice a day 2-3 pellets at a time, and change up his diet with some frozen bloodworms
Hope that helps
Good luck

Try doing a water change. The thrashing and darting around the tank is a sign of ammonia or nitrite poisoning. Could also be a sign of parasites as well, but my guess would be on the water quality. Depending on the tank/bowl size, probably need to increase your water changes during the week.
As for eating the poop thing, maybe there was a piece of food down in there that he saw, but your brother didn't.

i used to have a beta;
and for the answer of eating his poop;
do u feed him little food inshape of little balls?
because sometimes they mistake it for their food or there really hungry.
And most likely its not sick;
mine only did that when i went too close to the tank because they can get frighten really easily.
If he is sick;
it could b caused from when u changed the water;
make sure u put ur tap water in a jug and let it sit for atleast 24 hours before changing it ; and make sure theres always at least a quater of his old water inside.
I hoped it helped;
you could also get more information by
going to ur public libary there should be tons about betas
other known as
Chinese Fighting Fish.

He might possibly have mites. Ask someone for more advice at the petshop. Fighters like to try and attack their reflection or other fish through the glass, so he might just be doing it for that reason, but if it is spastic or not regular, then it's probably mites.

Your fish is probably fine
I had betas before, and one actually would thrash around but it was nothing serious. If you maybe put things in front of it or run around frantically, it could feel threatened.
Maybe you should ask a vet or a a pet store manager.
Just in case.

who knows? mine does this alot too. i will just be sitting there and he will spaz out and like crash into his rocks really loud. but i dont think he's sick, hes been doing it forever. i always just tell people he was sleeping and had a nightmare (ha) but, if you really would like to know, i would just go ask someone at petsmart or a local petstore. they would know before anyone on here would!

They do that sometimes when they get aggitated. Mine used to do it...there really was no rhyme or reason to it. But he lived for 4 years...so I guess he was ok.
