I'm planning on breeding Bettas and was just wondering how the sex of the fry is determined. Someone told me you'll get more males if they are in higher temperatures. While another person told me that low PH gives you more females then males.

And Yes, I know about breeding them and how pricey it can be and also the consequinces of having fish along with how to tell a male and female fish apart when they're full grown. i have fish coming in from Thailand this week from a good breeder there so don't even bother trying to tell me to look into it more.

I didn't mean to sound snippy, sorry. It's just often when I ask a question people tell me an entire different thing aboot bettas like how males can't be kept together, when I asked aboot male betta bubblenests.

Also, thy're are no health classes in my area I've looked. And thanks for telling me they make poor stock...can you suggest where I should get them?

I'm sorry to say, whatever you heard about temp and PH values affecting the outcome of the gender of your Betta fry, is a myth. It's impossible to control the genders of your fry. When it comes to genetics there is a 50% chance that your Fry will be Male or Female but, that doesn't mean that there will be half Male and half Female. The best you can do is keep the required living conditions for your fry and hope if you will get more females then males or vice versa.

I wish you the best of luck!

Genetics is the only factor that determines sex. All of those other things you see reported are nothing more than urban legend.

You should have looked into it more. Often bettas from Thailand make horrible breeding stock.
