Here in southern California, they sell them at petsmart, petco, and every pet store I've ever been to. Same in Hawaii.

Most of them cost about 2-4 bucks each. There's a "fancy" variety that I've seen sold for as much as $12.99 each, but that was a very rare thing. I saw pigmies for sale at $1.99 once in Hawaii, but the usual price is $2.99 for just about any kind.

Of course, in Arizona, fish are not as easy to come by... or so I hear.

There are also many species of corys that range in price from $3-4 each for the most common (corydorus aeneus and albino corys) to some of the more exotic such as the hi-fin corydorus paleatus which can go for around $6-8 each.

Most pet stores have corys of one kind or another because they are very popular fish. They are always busy and very cool looking little guys. Do not keep them with cichlids, however, because they are bottom dwellers like the cichlids and are not agressive enough to take care of themselves. The cichlids always end up damaging or killing them.

Corys are schooling fish and are happiest when they live in a group of 4-8 fish. You have the best chance of them spawning in your tank if you keep a group of 6-8 them.

Cories are very common and, as such, yes, they would sell them where you live if you have a Petco or Petsmart. You can't demand exact prices, because I can assure you that the cories they sell here in Santa Monica, CA are not going to be the same price as they would be in Gilbert, AZ or some other city. Prices change according to locations and whether it's a chain store or local fish store, low quality store or high quality store. Maybe not by much, but they do. That said, a cory is going to be between $5 and $10.

The Petco where I live sells them for $2-$5 each.
