I know from experience, some fish were more prone to some diseases than others, but it has been years since I had pet fish. I remember red-tail shark did very well easily, but what others are good?

if you buy healthy fish do all the proper maintenance and keep from adding new fish that come from diseased tank than any fish will be able to be healthy and less prone to disease. Disease occur either from poor water quality or introducing the disease/parasite into your system. If you keep the tank clean and make sure to quarantine new fish to be sure they are disease and parasite free then the chance of getting a disease in the tank is slimmed down. Hope this helps and good luck.

It's really a matter of proper maintenance to prevent disease and other issue in the tank as much as fish selection. While some fish seem to have a reputation of being hardy and disease resistant, that is often incorrect and usually leads to poor care in their keeping. Set you tank up with adequate filtration, stock it lightly and do regular weekly water changes and you'll have no problems with disease issues no matter what fish you select from the offerings typical of most pet shops.
