I have a new 10 gallon setup that I have been running for two weeks. I have two platies and 2 ghost shrimp and they are doing great. I have 3 artificial plants throughout the tank, as well as a small artificial tree stump with hiding places. I wanted to add in live plants, but is that something that has to be done with no fish in the tank, or can it be done with fish in the tank? Also, are there some types of plants that can be grown just in gravel?

My betta fish has some minor tail rot. I went to the pet store and bought BettaFix. I have a 10 gallon tank, with a filter, and after treating him for 4 days, i ran out of medicine. The directions state to treat him for 7 days then do a water change. The pet store clerk said that i would not need to do a water change, the medicine would not hurt him. Today I noticed that the water has a slight swirly white substance to the top surface. is this bad for my fish? or is he still being treated? Please help! Thank you!!

It is approx 5 years old. 2 other fish are starting to show some same signs and other 2 are fine. I changed the tank about a month ago to a bigger one. I added all the water from the old tank and topped it up with our well water.I bought new gravel for the new tank. It seems to stay on the bottom of the tank and it's top fin is down.

Eemmm...I thought apple snails needed a "friend" to make babies lol. I've had what I thought was a male snail (but I'm not aquatic expert so could be way off base) I've had the snail for about a year, and when I got him he was already the size of a golfball. Recently a friend gave me a bunch of Java Moss which the snail liked......BIG TIME. (no more java moss lol) I'm pretty sure my friend doesn't have any apple snails in her tank, tho she did have tiny "unicorn" shaped ones (which I have a few of, very tiny). Anyway....you can imagine my surprise when I was cleaning the tank tonight and found a small brown replica of the apple. I couldn't figure out what it was it was so tiny (slightly smaller then a pea) till it started to move and I got a good up close look at it lol.

Soooooooo.....first, can an apple snail have babies without a mate? I didn't think they could. And secondly....is there any special care I need to do for this little fella?

Thanks!

My two black mollies have white spots all over; one even has a large white place that looks almost like the fish is being nibbled. At first we thought it was Ichthyophthirius, but we've been treating with Quickcure for a week and a half and it's not helping at all. Our other fish (two wagtail platys and two guppies) don't seem to be affected at all. Our two apple snails died, though I'm not sure if it was from what the mollies have or from the Quickcure. Can anyone offer any help?

Today i went to the nearest petstore and i asked them if they carried clown loaches ( i wasn't planning on getting one today but if they did i would have asked them to reserve for me
apparently not.. so i left my number with the pet store so they can contact me if they get a stock of them.
asking someone who works at the pet store and he told me
how loaches exceeding 6'' is kinda rare...
since bacteria+ diseases+ ammonia is a problem with everyone who owns an aquarium.. i recently found out that increasing the heat will help... and someone told me from an earlier question that itll reduce the amount of oO2.. but right now i have an air stone set up in the tank..
and now heres the questions xD
1. Loaches exceeding 6-7 inches is rare?
2. will the air stone help distribute air in the tank if i have to increase the temperature?
3. Around how much is a clown loach?
4. can i feed them vegetables? and shrimp? and if so what kinds? (has phobia of worms)
5.i need ALOT of help on this!

I just can't get rid of this green water...I've tried many different things...I was wondering if the fact that i've added a bio-wheel within the past month could be producing more algae...I have 3 fantails in a 55 gallon tank about 2 inches long...tried water changes, 25% for 2 weeks every third day...just cant beat it....Thanks in advance...any suggestion is well appreciated

I've only been on yahoo answers for a few days, generally nothing else to do while im working. I've noticed that a few people out there are under the impression that ich and white spot are 2 different things, is this just mistaken identity or has the U.S. industry some how given a new disease the same title as the U.K. has for white spot?

I'm really aggrieved over losing 5pts for asking this question (tongue in cheek)

All levels good; nitrite 0, ammonia 0, ph 8.2, nitrate 20-40 ppm. I use premixed Ocean Seawater. Have gone fallow for 8 weeks, velvet still present.
