Fish - May 2007

my fish has dropsy. its had it for 2 and a hlaf weeks. shes eating again and her scales went straight but its belly is still bloated. is there any thing i can do to help it?

It started a couple months ago with just a little blackish green spotting, I figured it's algae. Now it has turned into a ruglike piece all over him and it's even fuzzy looking. It's all pretty dark, brown-black. I looked online and can't find anything on disease of lobsters or crayfish that fit this description. Do you think it's algea growth or a disease? He's not sluggish and eats great, nothing abnormal except the fuzzy black stuff.
I should add one of his tankmates got a fungus recently, we treated him with Pimafix, but this didn't chnage the lobster one bit.

Just wondering how long id have to leave after setting up the tank to add fish and plants. Was thinking about planting Plants as soon as i start the cycle using small plants giving them a few weeks to fill out then adding fish as when i kept Goldfish they ripped the plants to shreads.

I Couldn't get it to come out. My Brother found it at Biscayne Bay. We thought it was a hermit crab but it looks more like a snail.

Ok, I got my fish today. I got a dworf, and 2 mollies. I am SURE that my dalmation platy is a boy becuase he has longer fins. I am so have a silver platy. And she dosn't have long fins.

At the pet store, their kind was in the same tank( dalmation, and silver).And now that they are in the new tank, Oreo( dalmation) dosn't do any thing that Snow flake(silver) dosn't do. He follows her around every where, and I have seen him try to get her to flpi, but SnowFlake refuses! I really want them to mate, And I think they have before, beucase the way they are acting!How long does it take for her to let him mate with her?

I have 2 jack Dempsies in my tank. They are very aggresive which is why i like them. Problem is they kill EVERYTHING even my algae eater. What can i do to help keep the algae down?

I have a aqua clear power filter 30 gallon for my 28 gallon tank.

The instructions are not clear as to where the ammonia bag filter goes b/c I am trying to remove high levels of ammonia from my tank.

What is the order for the filters?

bio sponge (bottom of basket)
ammonia bag filter (on top of sponge)
then carbon bag filter (on top of ammonia bag filter)
then bio max bag?

I called 3 different PetSmarts and got 3 different answers.

If you know the order, I'd be truly grateful. Thanks.

i have a blue ram
2 guppies
1 sword tail
1 cory cat
i feed them a pinch of flake food twice a day and half a sinking waffer for the blue ram and cory
my guppies seem very fat how do you tell if they are overweight
i hear people feeding their fish veggies

will the fish that visibly have the fungus die or will they survive now that the treatment is in.
and i am moving the fish into a new tank next week if they still have the fungus will this spread to the other tank and to new fish

Okay,I've managed to get roundworms in my tank,I need a definite fool-proof way to eliminate them.I've tried everything from extreme gravel cleaning to even taking the gravel to the oven they still thrive arrgg!!..I know what causes them to appear and have done all the research I can stand I do regular water changes have around 1/4 an inch gravel at the bottom,clean the filter regularly and don't overfeed yet they just won't go away.The only thing I haven't tried is coppersafe...help!! I'm getting a new canister filter this penguin 330 kinda sux but I would like to eliminate them before I do this.So please someone give me an answer to this riddle...something that somebody has actually tried with success.

My fish is about 10 years old and is normally moderately active. We think she lost her eyes a few years back, as her eye sockets appear empty. We think she might be dying and want to save her! Help!!! She is like laying on the bottom of the tank and appears to have no control over the back end of her body. Every few hours she moves around a little bit, then goes right back to laying awkwardly on the surface. Please help

We have a 3ft tank which is set up for cold water fish but eventually would like to add a heater and go into tropical fish. and we were wondering if there are any cold water fish that will survive the warmer water.
ALSO......
What size heater would be needed?
What plants would be best for a tropical tank?

Well after dealing with the problem of my Male Discus. My other pair has spawned and for the fifth time on the second day of taking care of their eggs they have ate all them. And every time its on the second day they don't go white or anything but they still eat it. I have tested all the appropiate tests for it too see if there is any ammonia or nitrates or anything that would make it eat their young but they all came back normal. They are kept in a simple tank with gentle filtration with nothing disturbing them like loud noises or other fish in the tank. They also take really good care of their eggs as they take it in turn to feed and fan the eggs so i don't know whats wrong. Also i think that the eggs are fertilised as they don't turn white but what do discus eggs look like fertlised? Please help!

I have a pair of Silver Dollar Fish. They are eating each others fins. Theres like big chunks taken out of their fins. Are they suppose to be together? Are they suppose to be doing that? Should I seperate them? They don't eat other fish fins just each other. Is this a sign of a vitamin deficiancy or something? What should I do?

i know it is small.it was a gift from my mom,but im trying to explain to her that this tank is WAY to small.I cannot drive anywhereto get a new tank,because i cant drive yet.she says since they"live in those little cups in the pet store" than they can live in that too.i keep telling her that it is not the right thing for my betta,but what is a way that i can explain so she understands?im not saying shes stupid,but shes thinks that bettas aren't differnt than any other fish...she just doesnt seem to get it....?any help is greatly appreciated and thank you for your time!

Hi, I recently acquired an aquarium from some family members. The only fish in it is a black and brown spotted fish, is about 10 inches long, and sucks on the glass all day. What type of fish is it? I also want to get some other fish for the tank. What type of fish go well with this fish?

i posted a question yesterday about what type of fish i should get that would be a good starter fish. I have 9 dollors to spend on fish today. I have the whole tank, all I need is the fish, food, and the water. I am sure my mom will pay for the food.
