My fish is about 10 years old and is normally moderately active. We think she lost her eyes a few years back, as her eye sockets appear empty. We think she might be dying and want to save her! Help!!! She is like laying on the bottom of the tank and appears to have no control over the back end of her body. Every few hours she moves around a little bit, then goes right back to laying awkwardly on the surface. Please help

There are several possibly answers for this, some of which you have already seen in the answers above. It is the result of either an internal parasite or an internal bacterial infection. I hate to say it, but in most every case once a disease has progressed to the point that the symptoms are as bad as you see in your fish the chances of a recovery are very remote at best.

I would suggest you remove the fish from the tank and humanly euthanize it. Sorry for your loss.

What kind of goldfish is it? If you got it a few years old (which could be the case for goldfish), it could be old, but that is fairly young for many goldfish. It could be sick or suffering from swim bladder -- not sure about being twisted like that. Make sure all the water is good, you may want to put her in a tank where she can breath but doesnt have to exhert herself for food. There are exotic vets who will treat fish, especially ones so cared for.

Ive never heard of a fish loosing its eyes because of age, but then again Ive never had a goldfish for 10 years either. check the pH of the water. it might be too acidic.

10 years! That sounds pretty old for a goldfish. It sounds like you've done all you can, and you should probably let it go.

Sometimes it is best to to "be cruel to be kind."
The fish will not recover, so either place it in a bag and pop it in your freezer (which will kill it gently) or use the method favoured by fisherman... a hard blow to the head with a rock or similar. (Be careful ! You may smash your fingers.)

Check your nitrite/nitrate and ammonia levels. If they are high, then that might be the cause of it. If it's normal, then he might be dying of old age.

Your fish is about to die.
A fish without its eyes should have died awhile ago.
It happened to my fish too.
Except mine had its eyes, and we had it for a week.
